Olin Winchester, LLC ("Winchester"), considered one of the world's leading ammunition manufacturers, is seeking a Ballistics Engineer to work at the US Army's premier small caliber manufacturing facility located in Independence, MO.

Focus: The Ballistics Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing specialized small caliber ammunition and related systems from concept through implementation. This role leads ballistic test method development, analyzes performance data, ensures compliance with technical and regulatory requirements, and supports capital equipment and automation initiatives. The position collaborates cross-functionally to improve product quality, performance, and cost efficiency while conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.

Ballistics Engineer Team Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead the design, development, prototyping, testing, and evaluation of specialized ammunition and related systems from concept through implementation, including design review, compliance, and customer approval.

  • Develop, implement, and commission ballistics testing systems and equipment, including creation of test methods, fixtures, specifications, and automation strategies aligned with engineering requirements.

  • Conduct, analyze, and interpret ballistic testing data; prepare and present detailed technical reports to support product validation and decision-making.

  • Manage and support capital and continuous improvement projects focused on enhancing efficiency, product quality, performance, and cost reduction.

  • Perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and collaborate cross-functionally with engineering disciplines to support daily ballistics testing and deliver effective technical solutions.

Ballistics Engineer Team Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree* in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering.

  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience; related work in engineering test design, validation, or product testing preferred.

  • MS Project, Inventor, and Autodesk is preferred.

  • Technical knowledge working with small or medium caliber ammunition is preferred.

  • Experience with U.S. Government contracting preferred, small caliber experience is preferred.

Location-Specific Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.

  • Must have a valid US Driver's License.

  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls if required.

  • This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

  • This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies.
