STS Technical Services is hiring a Sr. Quality Engineer in Brookfield, Wisconsin. This role sits at the center of precision manufacturing, where quality is not a checkpoint, it is the system that drives everything forward.

If you understand CNC machining, AS9100 environments, and how to build quality into the process instead of inspecting it at the end, this is where your experience pays off.

Position Overview

The Sr. Quality Engineer supports advanced quality planning for CNC machining operations in an AS9100 certified environment by developing, optimizing, and maintaining manufacturing quality plans that ensure product quality, on time delivery, and cost efficiency. This role connects project management, manufacturing engineering, and production operations with a strong focus on aerospace requirements, measurement system analysis, statistical process control, and Six Sigma continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manufacturing Quality Engineering

  • Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing quality control plans for CNC machining processes including milling, turning, and multi axis operations
  • Create and maintain quality process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, and control plans including inspection gage plans, work instructions, and floor inspection reports
  • Select appropriate gages, inspection fixtures, inspection frequencies, and quality control strategies
  • Support new production parts with advanced quality planning, measurement system analysis, first article inspections, and production qualification using statistical analysis
  • Provide hands on shop floor support to resolve manufacturing and quality issues

AS9100 and Quality Compliance

  • Ensure all manufacturing processes comply with AS9100, customer, and regulatory requirements
  • Support First Article Inspection activities per AS9102 and Production Part Approval Processes as required
  • Participate in internal and external audits and support corrective and preventive actions
  • Assist with root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions for nonconformances
  • Maintain process documentation and change control in alignment with quality system requirements

Continuous Improvement and Cost Reduction

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and scrap reduction
  • Lead or participate in Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen initiatives
  • Analyze manufacturing data to improve quality, efficiency, and throughput
  • Support standardization and implementation of best practices across machining operations

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with management, manufacturing engineers, production leads, supervisors, purchasing, and scheduling teams
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and internal teams on technical manufacturing matters
  • Support vendors and subcontractors as required

Skills and Competencies

  • Expert knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management systems and industry standards
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes including milling, turning, grinding, and multi axis machining
  • Ability to interpret GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Experience working with complex precision machined parts
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or seven to ten years of progressively related experience

Experience and Training

  • 3 or more years of manufacturing engineering experience in an aerospace or defense CNC machining environment
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 quality systems, NADCAP, and customer specific requirements
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification preferred
  • Familiarity with ERP or MES systems

Licenses and Certifications

  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer preferred

Technology and Equipment

  • Advanced experience with CMM programming and inspection using PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar systems
  • Strong understanding of Gage R and R, bias, linearity, and stability studies
  • Experience with statistical process control using Minitab, QDAS, or similar software
  • Proficient with manual and automated measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, height gages, optical comparators, and surface roughness testers

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Frequent sitting, standing, and movement throughout production areas
  • Occasional entry into machines and handling of parts
  • Ability to handle and inspect materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception
  • Ability to pass Snellen and Jaeger eye exams with or without corrective lenses

Work Environment

  • Primarily office based with standard lighting, heating, and air conditioning
  • Regular exposure to manufacturing environments with loud machinery and moving equipment
  • Varying temperatures in production areas depending on operations
