About the Job:
The University of Minnesota Office of Human Resources is searching for an experienced Instructional Designer to join our Human Resources Management System (HRMS) training team. As a member of the HRMS training team you will design, develop, implement, and evaluate training that reflect adult learning theories and align with organizational objectives. This position will manage curriculum design and ensure training effectiveness.

Location and Work environment: This is a hybrid position. In-person work will be located on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus, in the Donhowe Building.

Work Schedule: Typical business hours, Monday through Friday.

Primary Responsibilities

Initiate, lead, and complete training projects (40%)

  • Analyze learners and contexts, develop, design, and implement complex training programs and content, and evaluate their effectiveness within the Office of Human Resources.
  • Provide and manage comprehensive, relevant, role-based programs that deliver context-specific knowledge, tools and skills.
  • Develop comprehensive recommendations and supporting programs to support customized competency models, curricula and development plans.
  • Collaborate with various business units, cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate design creation of training programs.
  • Develop learner experience-focused tools, templates, tutorials, guides, reference materials, and announcements in collaboration with SMEs and other stakeholders.
  • Provide instructional design, and technical consultation to stakeholders.

Create and maintain end-user documentation and training materials to support HRMS Users (30%)

  • Update course content based on system / application updates using a variety of applications such as Canvas, Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate.
  • Create course materials such as reference manuals and job aids for users.
  • Create new course content meeting identified standards.
  • Design materials for consistency across curricula.
  • Conduct assessment of training needs and identify ways to bridge gaps.
  • Identify ways to improve: training materials, and training department business processes.
  • Ensure the quality and consistency of course content throughout the course life cycle.
  • Serve as education and content expert within project or launch teams across business lines when educational programs are being planned, developed and delivered to all target audiences.
  • Work with subject matter experts to identify training needs.

Training delivery, facilitation, and evaluation (20%)

  • Deliver content/curriculum using a variety of modalities, including instructor-led synchronous/asynchronous learning and eLearning; develop and implement alternative learning methods/techniques.
  • Evaluate pre- and post-training effectiveness and analyze results; execute curriculum and content enhancements based on evaluation results and feedback.

Maintain knowledge of training industry best practices and make recommendations on how to apply them to the HRMS training strategy (10%)

  • Stay current on learning theory, instructional design, delivery methods, and best practices.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Human Resources, Instructional Design, or related field plus at least two years of experience, or a combination of education and/or experience to equal at least six years.
  • Experience using ADDIE and other adult learning frameworks and technologies to develop and deliver learning content.
  • Experience with course development software (i.e., Captivate, Articulate).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms to stakeholders.
  • Ability to write effective instructional text, audio, and video scripts, using a variety of visual design skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously without compromising quality and timeliness to goals.
  • Experience with Federal Accessibility standards for online accessibility (Section 508 compliance) and W3C code validation.
  • Experience transitioning complex concepts or situations into concise and compelling communications and education modules.
  • Experience working with a human resources management system.
  • Experience designing and managing training programs in a Learning Management System.
  • Experience using and managing a learning management system.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply User Experience (UX) and/or Learner Experience (LX) concepts to create instruction that fits the needs of clients and targeted learners.
  • Working knowledge of web design languages, including HTML, JavaScript, and CSS.
  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, After Effects, Acrobat Professional, and Audition), video and audio editing software, Adobe Captivate, and Articulate Storyline.

Pay Range: $33.41-$36.05 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience
