FAA Fire Training Specialist

(Fuel Safety Compliance Inspections)

CHICAGO FIRE DEPARTMENT

Airport Operations

Number of Positions: 1

Starting Salary: $118,692 annually

THIS POSITION IS OPEN ONLY TO CAREER SERVICE UNIFORMED MEMBERS OF THE CHICAGO FIRE DEPARTMENT

Under direction, the class functions as a uniformed technical specialist conducting fuel safety compliance inspections to ensure departmental operations at O'Hare (ORD) and Midway (MDW) Airports comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), state and departmental requirements, and performs related duties as required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Conducts specialized fire safety inspections and hazard assessments of aviation fuel systems and storage facilities at ORD and MDW airports

* Conducts fuel safety inspections at ORD and MDW airports of Jet-A: fixed fuel storage facilities, fueling tankers, and fueling hydrant trucks and hydrant cards

* Ensures all fueling agents and staff meet required Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) minimum training requirements prior to fueling an aircraft

* Performs quarterly inspections, spot inspections and re-inspections of Jet-A fueling assets at ORD and MDW airports

* Ensures equipment not meeting FAA requirements are taken out of service and removed from the airfield operations area (AOA)

* Creates and maintains fueling equipment inspection records in the Chicago Department of Aviation's (CDA) FAA approved record storage application

* Generates annual FAA certification inspection reports for both airports

* Accompanies FAA Inspectors during airport certification inspections

* Attends weekly CDA airport certification meetings

* Responds to Jet-A fuel spills on the AOA

* Investigates the causes of fuel spill(s) to determine if the spill was mechanical or fueling agent error

* Issues Jet-A fueling citations at both airports

* Attends fueling citations hearings representing the CFD as the subject matter expert

Additional duties may be required for this position

Hours: 6:00 am - 2:00 pm

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience

* Career Service status as a uniformed member of the Chicago Fire Department

* Five (5) years as a uniformed member of the Chicago Fire Department

* A valid Illinois State Driver's License

A minimum career service rank of either:

* Fire Fighter (including EMT or Paramedic)

* Fire Engineer (including EMT or Paramedic)

* Paramedic

* Paramedic I/C (PIC)

* Ambulance Commander

* Lieutenant (including EMT or Paramedic)

* Captain (including EMT or Paramedic)

Possession of the following:

* Office of the State Fire Marshal Instructor II and/or EMS Lead Instructor

* Office of the State Fire Marshal Fire Service Vehicle Operator (FSVO)

* Office of the State Fire Marshal Incident Safety Officer (Course Completion)

* Advanced (Red Stripe) Driving privileges at O'Hare Airport and Midway Airport
