Overview

Working as an Engineering Intern at a Highgate hotel in New York offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in one of the most dynamic and fast-paced hospitality markets in the world. New York hotels operate at high occupancy levels year-round, requiring strong operational excellence, quick problem-solving, and a commitment to exceptional guest experiences. In this role, you will be exposed to the complexities of managing engineering operations in a large, full-service hotel environment.



Responsibilities

Assist with preventive maintenance programs including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems

* Support daily engineering work orders and guest service requests

* Participate in routine property inspections and safety compliance checks

* Assist in monitoring energy usage and sustainability initiatives

* Support capital projects, vendor coordination, and equipment upgrades

* Maintain accurate logs, reports, and maintenance records

* Collaborate with Housekeeping, Front Office, and F&B teams to ensure smooth operations

* Follow all safety procedures, brand standards, and emergency protocols



Qualifications

Presently enrolled in a vocational training program, associate, or bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or a related discipline), or Hospitality/Facilities Management.

* Graduating senior or aspiring juniors are preferred

* Strong interest in hotel engineering, facilities management, or operations

* Basic understanding of building systems or maintenance processes preferred

* Strong problem-solving and organizational skills

* Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment

* Effective communication skills and willingness to learn in a fast-paced setting
