Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The Geotechnical Engineer at KCI will support geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design for a variety of infrastructure and civil engineering projects. This role involves field coordination, technical analysis, report preparation, and collaboration with senior engineers to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

    Assist with planning and performing geotechnical field investigations including drilling programs, test pit observations, sampling, and in-situ testing.
  • Perform geotechnical evaluations, analyses, and design for foundations, slopes, ground improvement, support of excavation (SOE), retaining walls, pavements, and other geotechnical systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Conduct pavement assesments, and assist with pavement design and rehabilitation recommendations.
  • Analyze subsurface conditions and laboratory testing results to develop engineering recommendations.
  • Prepare geotechnical engineering reports, technical memoranda, calculations, and construction recommendations for projects including transportation infrastructure, buildings, environmental facilities, tunnels, water/wastewater facilities, dams, and landfills.
  • Assist with preparation of project scopes, cost estimates, and technical proposals.
  • Coordinate with project teams, clients, contractors, and internal staff to support project execution.
  • Provide geotechnical support during construction, including field observations, documentation of subsurface conditions, and responding to contractor questions or RFIs.
  • Support and perform non-destructive geophysical techniques for subsurface characterization as needed.
  • Assist senior engineers with quality control reviews of calculations, analyses, and technical deliverables.
  • Mentor or assist in training entry-level engineers and field staff as appropriate.
  • Perform additional geotechnical engineering tasks as required to support project delivery.

Qualifications

Education and/or Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-Accredited Program
  • Strong Proficiency in required design software such as MicroStation or AutoCAD.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good communication and technical writing skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically.

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) eligibility
