Senior Design Engineer

Kress is looking for a full time Senior Design Engineer to join our team in the development of specialized industrial equipment for steel, construction, and mining industries.

Our Senior Design Engineer will perform activities to complete moderately complex design projects to satisfy our customer and/or engineering orders. This position's primary focus will be on general mechanical engineering and design.

Responsibilities -

  • Engineering projects as assigned
  • Development of new products or expansion of current product line and prepare technical objectives and specifications
  • Review instructions received from Project Engineering Manager and perform necessary design and development studies to determine best approach to the design
  • Participate in selection of system components
  • Make calculations to determine requirements for system components
  • Prepare layouts and details of system assemblies and sub-assemblies
  • Participate in design reviews
  • Keep management informed of progress of project and problems encountered
  • Initiate design reviews and make changes where necessary
  • Maintain adequate and permanent record of projects including evaluations and other documents of the project
  • Maintain contact with Purchasing regarding component needed, specifications, quality, cost, and availability
  • Manage design costs and manufacturability
  • Provide timely, accurate engineering information within other business units
  • Offer input for updating department standards and procedures


  • Utilize existing designs, reference material, or standards to develop designs
  • Complete appropriate confirming calculations to size components for fit and function
  • Revise prior designs to bring them up to date with new guidelines and standards
  • Work with manufacturing regarding difficulties encountered during build and participate in troubleshooting hydraulic system issues encountered
  • Provide engineering assistance to Product Support & Marketing Department and Customers as needed
  • Some travel may be required



Qualifications -

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5-years prior experience in construction, mining, or off-highway equipment
  • Must be proficient in reading schematics
  • Modeling experience a plus (SolidEdge, Creo, Pro-E, UG NX)
  • Strong attention to detail with a meticulous approach to quality control and technical documentation



Competencies -

  • Intermediate understanding of UG NX and SolidEdge computer aided design
  • Intermediate understanding of Microsoft office
  • Intermediate understanding of Infor XA
  • Familiarity with heavy equipment systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot heavy equipment systems
