Overview

LMI is seeking a Transportation Modeler to support a highly visible project with the United States Postal Service (USPS). The Transportation Modeler will play a critical role in optimizing the USPS Local Network using a 100% data-driven approach, advanced modeling software like Blue Yonder's TMOD, and analytics to streamline mail transport processes and reduce costs. This position involves gathering, processing, and analyzing logistics data from various USPS repositories, assessing performance metrics, and configuring complex transportation scenarios such as Dynamic Route Optimization (DRO), Local Transportation Optimization (LTO), Regional Transportation Optimization (RTO), and more. The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in data analysis, transportation modeling, and stakeholder collaboration, leveraging tools such as Python, SQL, and Power BI to deliver efficient and implementable cost-saving solutions.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Data Collection and Validation:

    • Compile and validate historical data from sources such as Data Lake, Surface Visibility, TOPS, Facilities Database, Operating Plan Precision, and End of Run reports.
    • Conduct assessments of physical facility constraints, volumes, resource capabilities, and mail flows.
    • Solicit direct site contact and stakeholder input to ensure data accuracy and comprehensiveness.
    • Automate data collection processes using Python, SQL, and statistical methods to improve reliability and efficiency.

Network Modeling and Optimization:

    • Leverage industry-leading modeling methodologies, including the use of TMOD software and heuristic solvers, to optimize mail transport configurations and reduce costs.
    • Develop Local Transportation Optimization (LTO) models and other models as directed.
    • Continuously improve modeling logic by applying analytics and feedback mechanisms to enhance result quality.

Data Analytics and Visualization:

    • Process data using Python scripts to create formatted volume suitable for modeling.
    • Develop visual demonstrations through tools such as Power BI dashboards to present insights to stakeholders.
    • Conduct financial rigor analyses and prepare data visualizations aligning with USPS savings initiatives.

Continuous Process Improvement:

    • Apply Lean Six Sigma methodologies to identify trends, opportunities, and solutions for improving network effectiveness.
    • Lead research and development efforts, testing new modeling configurations and monitoring performance outcomes.
    • Maintain an agile development process to facilitate quick iterations and improvements to current tools and workflows.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years' experience in logistics operations management, data analytics, data science, business management, or supply chain analysis.
  • Experience with Python, SQL, Excel, and statistical analysis for data processing and workflow optimization.
  • Proven ability to consult and develop solutions for complex logistical challenges.
  • Familiarity with transportation optimization models and logistics performance analysis.
  • Experience developing dashboards and data visualization using tools such as Power BI and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with a focus on collaborative success.
  • Successful performance operating within an autonomous and collaborative virtual environment.
  • Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Position of Public Trust Clearance (US Citizen or Permanent Resident).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certified.
  • Master's degree with a minimum of 5 - 8 years of experience in either practice: business. Administration, process improvement, data analytics and visualization, logistics operations, or supply chain analysis.
  • Consultancy experience with Senior and C-Level clients.
  • Advanced skills in Python, SQL, Excel, and statistical analysis for data processing and workflow optimization.
  • Experience with USPS systems and tools, including Data Lake, Databricks, Spyder, DbVisualizer, and Blue Yonder TMOD.
  • Must demonstrate soft skills such as: relationship building, influence, and exemplary communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong analytical skills and experience recommending solutions to complex client challenges.

Target salary range:

Disclaimer: $101,784 - $174,659

The salary range displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is not a guarantee of compensation. Individual salaries are determined by various factors including, but not limited to location, internal equity, business considerations, client contract requirements, and candidate qualifications, such as education, experience, skills, and security clearances.
