Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Associate Director of RecWell for Facilities & Operations, the Coordinator of Aquatics and Risk Management position is responsible for the planning, management and supervision of aquatics programs. This includes personnel management and supervision of student employees working in the aquatics area providing delivery of recreation activities and student employment practices that contribute to student success and wellbeing.

Essential Functions

Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and facilitate professional development for a diverse student staff operating in an environment supporting inclusion, and accessibility for all participants and staff.

Develop, manage, and grow aquatic programs, events, and facility rentals with the goal of increasing revenue from these programs.

Maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly reports and program assessment records.

Conduct evaluations of instructors and programs to assess program quality and receive participant feedback.

Support payroll processes for student staff ensuring alignment with allocated funding.

Maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders. Work collaboratively with other campus stakeholders to fulfill the mission of Student Affairs and Campus Life.

Assist with the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures for the Recreation and Wellbeing (RecWell) department.

Support the inspection of facilities and ensure they are compliant with federal, state, and county public health and safety regulations.

Assist with the inventory of equipment related to the lifeguards, aquatics programs, and facility emergency preparedness.

Lead in-service training, CPR courses, and American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification courses. Assist with planning, organizing, and facilitating monthly & biannual in-service training.

Maintain and track RecWell staff and student employee CPR and Lifeguarding certifications.

Other Functions

Perform related duties as assigned or required. Understand responsibilities with respect to Title IX, Clery and other compliance requirements.

Demonstrate capacity, skill, and willingness to engage students and contribute to student success.

Understand responsibilities with respect to conflicts of interest and behaves in ways consistent both with law and with university policy.

Contribute toward creating a positive and respectful workplace. Use access to sensitive and/or not yet public university related information only in the performance of the responsibilities of position and exercise care to prevent unnecessary disclosure to others.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree with two (2) years of recreation or aquatics experience; or Master's Degree with one (1) year of recreation or aquatics experience.

Lifeguard certification from a nationally recognized agency.

First aid/CPR/AED instructor certification obtained within one year of hire from a nationally recognized agency.

Lifeguard instructor certification obtained within one year of hire from a nationally recognized agency.

Ability to train and supervise student employees.

Ability to plan and prepare presentations/training to diverse populations.

Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills, including, but not limited to, communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to recommend purchasing decisions based on independent research and judgement.

Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments.

Knowledge and ability to interpret industry standards, related to safety of participants, in a recreation facility setting as a risk manager.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification(s) from a nationally recognized agency:

Lifeguard instructor certification.

Water safety instructor certification.

Pool operator or aquatic facility operations certification.

Additional Details

Work conducted in a typical office and recreation center environment

Must be available to work some evenings and weekends.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in indoor and/or outdoor athletic facilities and venues. May require travel to competitions, lifting and transporting equipment, prolonged standing, and walking during practices, games, and recruiting activities.

Work Schedule and Work Arrangement

37.5 hours per week.

Must be available to work some evenings and weekends.

Salary Information

Pay Grade: PSSAP Grade 26
