RN - Center of Perioperative Optimization

At Howard County General Hospital, we have 11 ORs which are a great fit for the experienced OR RN looking to work for the world-renowned Johns Hopkins family. In our OR's we provide ortho/spine, robotics, and general surgeries.



Role and Responsibilities:



  • The OR RN reviews pre-surgical testing results (like cardiac and neuro clearances) to determine if a patient is cleared for surgery.
  • Must have strong assessment skills-able to read and interpret labs, identify any issues or concerns, and communicate with anesthesia for additional consults as needed.
  • Anesthesia team usually doesn't consult patients before surgery unless a concern is raised by the CPO nurse.
  • The role involves frequent communication with doctor's offices (primary care, urgent care, etc.) to collect and clarify medical clearance information.
  • The nurse decides if a patient is ready for surgery or needs further evaluation/workup.


Qualities Needed:



  • Good communicator and team player.
  • Detail-oriented and able to handle tedious, back-and-forth documentation and chart review.
  • Confident in assessing medical records and patient histories.


Shift: Full-time, 8 hour days

Nursing requirements:



  • Associate Degree from an accredited Nursing Program
  • CPR/BLS certification required: AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network accepted.

  • Nurses hired with an Associate's degree in nursing must enroll in an accredited BSN/MSN program within 1 year of hire and complete the degree within 5 years of your start date.
  • Authorization to Work in the United States: Applicants who require sponsorship now or in the future will not be considered for this position.


Salary Range: Minimum 37.13/hour - Maximum 57.87/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
