The Role

The Vice President, Global Security & Environmental Health & Safety (VP, GS&EH&S) is a visionary leader responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving enterprise-wide strategies that safeguard the organization's people, assets, and physical sites globally.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role leads both security operations and EH&S functions, ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and a proactive, inclusive culture of safety and security. The VP, GS&EH&S collaborates with executive leadership, cross-functional teams, and external stakeholders to drive risk mitigation, crisis management, and sustainability initiatives aligned with McKesson's core values and business objectives.

About Medical-Surgical

McKesson Medical-Surgical (MMS) is a subsidiary and publicly reported segment of the McKesson Corporation. MMS distributes medical-surgical supplies, pharmaceuticals, diagnosticequipmentand supplies, along with other solutions and services tovirtually everytype of healthcare setting and provider outside of the traditional hospital. These markets - often referred to as Alternate Care or Non-Acute Care - include physician offices, surgery centers, long-term care providers, laboratories, home health and hospice agencies, health systems, government facilities and online marketplaces and retailers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership

    • Develop and drive a unified global strategy for Security Operations and Environmental Health, and Safety aligning with enterprise risk, business priorities, and regulatory requirements.

    • Foster strategic partnerships with law enforcement agencies at the local, state, and federal levels to enable the mutual exchange of security awareness and intelligence. Lead change management initiatives that drive the adoption and integration of new programs and best practices. Cultivate a culture of injury prevention, environmental compliance, and organizational resilience.

  • Risk Management and Compliance

    • Oversee enterprise-wide risk assessments, threat analysis, and vulnerability studies. Implement best practice mitigation measures that address physical security, workplace safety and environmental compliance risks. Ensure full compliance with all local, national, and international laws, regulations, and standards pertaining to security, workplace safety and environmental compliance (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT, DEA, FDA, HIPAA, GDPR, SOX). Maintain robust auditing, monitoring, and reporting systems for operational security, injury prevention, regulatory compliance, and environmental performance.

  • Metrics and Reporting

    • Establish transparent reporting frameworks, KPIs, dashboards, and risk reporting to measure and communicate program effectiveness. Regularly present actionable insights and recommendations to senior leadership. Benchmark performance against industry standards and emerging trends.

  • Operational Excellence

    • Lead the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of security and EH&S programs that align with both regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, DOT, DEA, FDA, etc.), risk considerations, and industry best practices, and include:

      • Crisis & Emergency Management

      • Executive Protection

      • Supply Chain Security

      • Security & Employee Accident Investigations

      • Security & EH&S Standards & Procedures

      • Injury Prevention Programs

      • Environmental & Safety Regulatory Compliance Programs Global Security Operations Center.

  • Culture and Engagement

    • Foster a diverse, inclusive, and proactive safety/security culture. Develop and deliver training programs to empower employees at all levels to identify and report potential threats and safety issues. Champion engagement and accountability across the organization.

  • Team Leadership

    • Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing, diverse team of security and EH&S professionals. Promote a culture of expertise, integrity, and continuous improvement.

  • Stakeholder Collaberation

    • Cultivate strong relationships with internal departments (e.g., IT, Legal, HR, Facilities), external agencies (e.g., law enforcement, regulatory bodies), and industry peers to enhance security and safety capabilities. Ensure security and safety programs are fully integrated into the business planning and decision-making process.

  • Budget and Resource Management

    • Establish and manage the security and EH&S department's budget, ensuring optimal resource allocation and appropriate ROI considerations.

Qualifications Minimum Requirements

Minimum of 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in security operations, EH&S, or related fields, with at least 5 years in a senior role overseeing global security functions preferably in a mid-size or large, global organization.

Critical Skills
  • Strategic thinker with firm understanding of balancing business risk, cost, and security/safety benefit.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a strong safety and security culture across a large organization.

  • Familiarity with government or regulatory agencies; experience working in a highly regulated environment.

  • Proven change management and transformation leader.

  • Leadership skills necessary to command the action and confidence of others during fast breaking crisis situations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely; ability to prepare and deliver high level presentations and briefings, for both internal and external audiences.

  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with regulatory compliance, risk management, and continuous improvement methodologies.

Education

Bachelor's degree in business, security, occupational/environmental health and safety, or related field is preferred.

Preferred certifications include CPP (Certified Professional), PSP (Physical Security Professional), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), Associate in Risk Management (ARM).

Physical Requirements
  • General office demands.

  • Must have the ability to travel up to 50% of the time.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. $178,900 - $298,100
