Join our Team: Principal Weld Engineer

Join our team at Terex/Genie and embark on an exciting opportunity as we seek a skilled and dedicated Weld Engineer to contribute to the Manufacturing Technical Services team.

This position is responsible for developing and implementing advanced welding processes including robotic welding, designing weldments for robotic applications, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The candidate will provide technical expertise to develop and implement processes that meet engineering requirements for complex welded structures, including both prototypes and production.

The role involves leading the specification, selection, and global implementation of robotic welding systems and relevant advancements in welding technology. A deep understanding of welding techniques, materials science, and automation technologies is essential. Designing products for automated welding will be a critical responsibility.

The candidate will collaborate with site manufacturing teams to implement functional excellence and standardization across all plants. This includes institutionalizing welding automation from conception to completion, with an emphasis on team member safety, best-in-class quality, and manufacturing productivity.

What you'll do

  • Responsible for leading site manufacturing teams with the development, justification, and execution of long-range plans to meet company goals for welding technology including related automation.

  • Continually evaluate new welding technology for possible implementation. This will include working closely with suppliers to research, test and evaluate innovative solutions that provide bottom line benefit to the company.

  • Promotes the technical integration between all operations and engineering departments aiming at process improvement implementation, new materials testing and approval, and dissemination of technical knowledge.

  • Aid in the evaluation of capacity planning for weld equipment, and processes to ensure ability to meet takt time and customer requirements.

  • Identify, prioritize, and implement solutions for process improvement opportunities including application of lean manufacturing principles, process mapping, root cause analysis, and problem-solving techniques.

  • Resolves complex weld process problems by using problem solving methods and applying both simple and complex solutions as necessary.

What you'll bring

  • B.S. or MS Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline with 10 years of experience.

  • Approximately 25% of the time will be spent travelling to all Genie manufacturing sites

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector

  • A strong background in lean manufacturing is required.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Prior experience in managing large, CAPEX intensive projects is required.

  • Must be able to manage workload for multiple projects and meet key metrics including budget, timeline, and process/product performance.

  • Excellent coaching and leadership skills

Salary: The salary range for this position is $95k - $150k USD.
