Job Description

General Summary:

The Customer Engagement Liaison (CEL), US Kidney - West is an extension of the marketing team and responsible for identifying and driving engagement with key nephrology stakeholders, primarily healthcare providers (HCPs) in relation to commercial programming such as speaker bureaus, advisory boards, congresses, and regional insights meetings. The CEL supports current/future indications in IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and APOL1-mediated kidney disease (AMKD) and other potential kidney diseases. Vertex CELs work with key nephrology stakeholders in their assigned territory to collect insights and derive knowledge with an overall goal of informing the development and evolution of the marketing and brand strategy. They will drive advocacy of the U.S. Commercial Kidney portfolio with National/Regional Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and implement cross-functional stakeholder engagement plans across a range of commercial activities as stated above.

We are seeking a candidate with nephrology experience who has a strong track record in US commercial roles and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced launch environment. This position resides within the marketing function and reports to the Director, Customer Engagement Liaison Lead. CELs will be responsible for working cross-functionally with US Marketing, Sales, Market Access and Medical Affairs to shape and develop customer engagement strategies, execute prioritized tactics, generate actionable insights, address customer needs, anticipate market trends and uncover competitive intelligence, ensuring delivery against business objectives. The candidate must live in the territory and within proximity of an airport. Note that specific territory footprint may evolve over time.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own and lead the development of impactful commercial engagement plans with key nephrology stakeholders, primarily HCPs, that inform brand strategy and messaging in close collaboration with cross functional colleagues in the field and at headquarters
  • Identify and monitor market trends and insights into current and future treatment patterns that may impact the commercial uptake and strategize solutions that will maximize commercial efforts
  • Identify, build, and manage relationships with key nephrology stakeholders, primarily HCPs, in relation to commercial programming such as speaker bureaus, advisory boards, congresses, and regional insights meetings
  • Partner with HCPs on commercial speaker bureau activities to ensure successful execution of events with audiences, including attending events, training and evaluating speakers, and providing feedback to optimize future presentations
  • Lead commercial regional insights meetings through identification and engagement of key advisors
  • Nominate potential new members and support commercial advisory boards and strategic council activities and meetings
  • Plan and execute national and regional conferences with a focus on setting up meaningful, strategic commercial HCP engagements for senior leaders
  • Work with HCPs to gain and synthesize feedback in support of commercial projects
  • Deliver key customer insights on commercial strategy, tactics, messaging, and program execution in partnership with marketing and other headquarter based teams
  • Collaborate with other field-based roles (sales, medical, access, etc.) to optimize engagement and maximize insight generation
  • Model and instill a culture of compliance focused on ethics and integrity in all we do

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Typically requires 8 years of experience in healthcare / biopharmaceuticals, or an equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Nephrology experience
  • Previous experience as a Thought Leader Liaison or Regional Marketing Lead
  • Rare disease / specialty product launch experience

  • Customer focus with strong knowledge of HCP engagement practices
  • Clinical, technical, and scientific aptitude in complex disease states
  • Demonstrated ability to execute against strategic and tactical plans under short timelines
  • Highly effective communication skills (verbal, written, presentation)
  • Self-driven with strong organizing and planning skills
  • Highly collaborative with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Travel Requirements

  • Approximately 60-80% domestic travel throughout the US, some weekends included
  • Valid driver's license and in good standing

Pay Range:

$152,800 - $229,200

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
