Job description

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Shepherd's Hope serves as the chief steward of mission, faith-based values, and organizational performance, leading a nonprofit healthcare ministry serving the uninsured of all faiths in Central Florida. The CEO provides, values-driven, servant leadership while exercising disciplined executive oversight of strategy, operations, clinical quality, and financial sustainability. Working in close partnership with the Board of Directors, medical leadership, staff, volunteers, donors, churches, and community partners, the CEO ensures Shepherd's Hope delivers compassionate, high-quality healthcare grounded in dignity, respect, and service. Faith and excellence are not competing priorities; they are mutually reinforcing. The CEO ensures that Shepherd's Hope operates as both a credible healthcare provider and a trusted faith-based organization, welcoming all while remaining anchored in its mission and values.

Core Responsibilities

1. Mission, Faith & Servant Leadership

* Uphold and advance Shepherd's Hope's faith-based mission, values, and purpose in all aspects of leadership and decision-making.

* Model servant leadership characterized by humility, integrity, compassion, accountability, and thoughtful discernment.

* Foster an organizational culture where faith, professionalism, and excellence coexist and reinforce one another.

* Ensure that faith integration remains appropriate, authentic, and welcoming to all patients, volunteers, and staff, regardless of religious background.

2. Strategic Leadership & Board Partnership

* Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop, implement, and evaluate Shepherd's Hope's strategic plan, long-term vision, and annual objectives.

* Provide transparent, timely, and data-informed reporting to the Board regarding mission impact, financial health, clinical performance, risks, and opportunities.

* Support strong Board governance, including committee engagement, policy development, strategic retreats, and CEO succession planning.

* Serve as the primary liaison between the Board and management, ensuring clarity of roles, accountability, and alignment.

3. Healthcare Operations & Clinical Excellence

* Provide executive oversight of Shepherd's Hope's clinical programs and healthcare services, ensuring safe, ethical, and high-quality care.

* Partner closely with the Medical Director and clinical leaders to uphold standards of care, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement.

* Ensure services remain responsive to the evolving needs of the uninsured working population of Central Florida.

* Promote a patient experience, rooted in dignity, compassion, respect, and excellence.

4. Financial Stewardship & Organizational Sustainability

* Ensure strong fiscal stewardship, transparency, and long-term sustainability of the organization.

* Oversee budgeting, financial planning, internal controls, audits, cash flow management, and financial reporting.

* Work with the Board to responsibly balance mission growth with prudent risk management.

* Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local nonprofit and healthcare regulations.

5. Fundraising, Philanthropy & External Relations

* Serve as Shepherd's Hope's chief ambassador and lead fundraiser, cultivating and stewarding relationships with donors, faith partners, foundations, corporations, and community organizations.

* Partner with the V.P. of Philanthropy to build a diversified, sustainable funding base.

* Communicate Shepherd's Hope's mission, impact, and stories with clarity and authenticity to inspire generosity and trust.

* Strengthen the organization's visibility, credibility, and reputation throughout Central Florida.

6. Leadership, Culture & Talent Development

* Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing, mission-aligned senior leadership team. * Foster a collaborative, accountable, and service-oriented organizational culture.

* Ensure effective human resource practices, including performance evaluations, leadership development, and succession planning.

* Support and honor the essential role of volunteers, medical professionals, and faith partners in advancing the mission.

7. Community Engagement & Advocacy

* Serve as a respected leader within the Central Florida faith-based, healthcare, and nonprofit communities. * Build strategic partnerships with hospitals, healthcare providers, social service agencies, faith organizations, and civic organizations.

* Advocate for access to healthcare for the uninsured of all faiths while preserving Shepherd's Hope's non-political, mission-centered identity.

Qualifications & Experience Required

* Demonstrated commitment to faith-based service and servant leadership.

* Senior executive leadership experience

* Proven success in fundraising, donor engagement, and community relations.

* Strong financial and operational acumen, including oversight of complex budgets and teams, comprised of employees and volunteer service providers.

* Exceptional communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.

* Local travel within Central Florida as required.

Preferred

* Experience serving uninsured or underserved populations.

* Familiarity with nonprofit healthcare compliance and regulatory environments.

* Advanced degree in healthcare administration, business, public administration, or a related field.

* Professional level healthcare volunteer recruitment and management experience.

* Experience working closely with a governing board. Personal Attributes

* Standard business hours with evening and weekend commitments for fundraising, events, and community engagement.

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco by Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to:

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;
  • office location and other geographic considerations;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco by Highspring believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
