This is a full-time, onsite, Microbiology Scientist 1 position located in Pittsburgh, PA,Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Compensation: $20.00 per hour

We are looking for a Scientist I for our downtown Pittsburgh, PA, location to support a professional microbiology laboratory team. SUMMARY:

Responsible for the analysis of samples, using fundamental professional and technical knowledge of microbiology and related instrumentation, testing, and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Analyzing viable bacterial and water samples. Knowledge ofLegionella speciesis a plus. Should be familiar with clinically significant bacteria and with pathogens such as coliforms, E. coli, and Legionella pneumophila (NOTE: It is not necessary to know how to analyze all the sample types above, but experience in basic analysis of bacterial cultures in an environmental or clinical laboratory is necessary).

  • Perform fundamental microbiology professional-level lab duties in a variety of assigned areas.

  • Oversee and administer standard lab functions.

  • May train others in policies and procedures related to the work.

  • Serve as a team member and the development and management of microbiology projects.

  • Prepare fundamental functional reports, correspondence and other written materials.

  • Use initiative and independent judgment within established department guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a life science (e.g., Biology, Microbiology, etc.), or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Candidate will provide documented 3 to 6 months on-the-job training for set-up and analysis of bacterial cultures. We will accept previous training and work experience with the demonstration of mastered skills.

  • Experience in analyzing bacteria samples, such as Legionella, coliforms, E. coli preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a lab and office setting. Work is subject to chemicals, fumes, gases, noxious odors, and related items in a lab and sample setting.
