The Position

2026 Summer Intern - Product Development Data Science

Department Summary

This role is based in Data Management, a core function within Product Development Data Sciences (PDD). We lead the industry in speed and efficiency by developing tools, automation, and adopting cutting-edge technologies that streamline clinical trial data collection and delivery. Specifically, you will join the Technical Excellence group, where we work at the intersection of technology, process, and user experience to ensure our systems are regulatory-ready and fit-for-purpose.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on-site.

The Opportunity

As a Technical Specialist of Data Science, you will apply data engineering skills to translate complex process needs into tangible technical solutions. You will help shape digital capabilities that enable high-quality, efficient clinical data management. Your main responsibilities:

  • AI & Digitalization Strategy: Evaluate our data pipeline to identify opportunities for digitalization and AI implementation.

  • Knowledge Base Development: Utilize advanced technology to build a structured, quality-checked knowledge base for Technical Excellence group, by cleaning and consolidating industry guidance, data standards, and internal knowledge articles.

  • Domain Translation & Technical Enablement: Quickly learn Clinical Data Management domain knowledge and Technical Excellence tools to support Data Managers by debugging basic issues from our data pipeline, and utilizing R, SQL, or Python scripts to unblock data management teams.

  • User Adoption & Education: Translate complex technical features into simple, value-driven language that simplify workflows for Data Managers.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12 months, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June 2026.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are (Required)

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree.

  • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).

  • Must have attained a Master's Degree (not currently enrolled in a full time PhD program).

Required Majors: Computer Science, Data Science, Informatics, Life Sciences (Biology, Biochem, Genetics), Bioengineering, or related technical fields.

Required Skills:

  • Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and understand scripts in R, SQL, or Python and understand data structures.

  • AI/ML Familiarity: Knowledge of AI tools to support potential digitalization projects.

  • Learning Agility: A strong desire to seek opportunities to learn, try new approaches, and build expertise in data management methodology.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to apply independent judgment to solve moderately complex data issues and troubleshoot user-reported problems.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to express ideas effectively and translate technical concepts into simple language.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

  • Experience with clinical data tools (e.g., Medidata RAVE) or CDISC standards (e.g., SDTM) is a plus.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $45.00 - $50.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
