Work Schedule:

This unique opportunity is a 100% FTE position scheduled to typically work Monday through Friday, day shift hours, however some off hours or weekends may be required. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department. You will primarily work at University Hospital with travel required throughout the Madison, WI area.

Join our team as a Nursing Education Specialist and work with MICU and Dialysis nurses in a Level 1 Trauma and academic medical center!

We are seeking a MSN or DNP prepared Registered Nurse (RN) interested in a unique opportunity to support onboarding and professional development for UW Health's MICU and Dialysis nursing teams:

  • Areas of support include a 16-bed state of the art Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) located in our brand-new tower (C2/5) at University Hospital with a tentative opening in early 2027.
    • MICU nurses provide care for patients with complex medical conditions including acute respiratory failure, sepsis, drug toxicity, liver failure, DKA, severe GI bleeds, and multi-system organ failure.
    • Advanced therapies include ECMO, CRRT, CAR-T cell therapy, and EKOS system therapy.
  • Additional areas of support include Hemodialysis nursing services caring for patients with acute and chronic kidney disease requiring intermittent and/or continuous dialysis across the lifespan (neonatal to geriatric).
    • Inpatient support includes the 9-bed dialysis unit at University Hospital in Madison, WI.
    • Support is also provided to dialysis nurses delivering inpatient services at University Hospital, American Family Children's Hospital, East Madison Hospital, Meriter Hospital, and the local VA Hospital.
  • Facilitate and conduct the initial onboarding and continued professional development of the nursing staff within their assigned areas of support.
  • Collaborate across departments to assist with curriculum and program development supporting nursing education at UW Health.
  • Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive educational programs.
  • Participate in system-wide initiatives and new nurse orientation.
  • Complete assigned NES responsibilities based on departmental needs.
  • Serve as a clinical education resource; ICU experience and dialysis experience including CRRT is highly preferred, along with experience in nursing education.

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Nursing Required
  • Master's Degree in Nursing Education Preferred
Work Experience
  • 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Required
  • 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience with position specific patient population Preferred
  • 3 years of experience providing orientation and education for nursing staff in clinical setting Preferred
  • Relevant experience in primary and specialty clinic settings for NES candidates working in ambulatory areas Preferred
Licenses & Certifications
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Upon Hire Required
  • Basic Life Support BLS/CPR certification Upon Hire Required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months Required
  • National certification in relevant specialty Preferred
