The Desk Receptionist serves a critical role as a layer of safety and security to the greater residence hall community and are designated as Campus Security authorities in accordance with the Clery Act. Serves as a key resource for residents, provide customer service through personal interactions, promoting an inclusive and welcoming environment for all residents and guests. Also assists residents and guests with equipment checkout and maintenance requests.

Schedule: 11pm-7am Friday & Saturday during the school year (10-months). Includes holidays during which the residence hall front desks are open. Scheduled days off will be managed by the supervisor. This position has the potential for summer employment if desired.

This is an hourly-paid position, starting at $15.00 plus differential for overnight shift work.

Position Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe, respectful, and welcoming community in a Catholic, Jesuit liberal arts setting. Monitor access to residence halls, verify residents and guests, and deny entry to unauthorized individuals. Assist with bag checks and enforce policies on alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and other prohibited items.
  • Report and escalate safety, security, and medical concerns to on-duty staff. Use video surveillance to identify unauthorized exits or safety issues. Follow fire and weather emergency procedures and assist first responders with required information. Maintain confidentiality and stay alert to all radio/phone communications.
  • Customer Service: Provide respectful, timely support to residents and guests. Greet and assist all who enter or exit the building, in person and via phone. Protect student privacy and uphold FERPA guidelines.
  • Administration & Personal Responsibility: Accurately manage guest check-ins/outs, equipment usage, logs, maintenance requests, and reports. Foster an inclusive environment that encourages open expression, civil dialogue, and appreciation of diverse identities and backgrounds.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Customer Service, Safety, or related experience preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed
