About the Job

This is a full-time, 12-month position starting at $34.13 per hour working in the Department of Facilities and Operations. This position reports to the Director of Facilities and Operations. Must be willing to work holidays and overtime when necessary. This position is represented by the Teamsters Local 320 Bargaining Unit.

Position Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility for the Mechanic II position is to perform complex mechanical, maintenance and repair work with building systems and related equipment. A major component is using skills related to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning HVAC) for large scale buildings(s):

  • Performs tasks and duties of Mechanic I classification. Tests, regenerates, inspects, adjusts, changes filters, and repairs/replaces components of water softeners, distilled water, and laboratory water systems down stream of approved backflow preventers.
  • Operates building systems utilizing computerized equipment. Determines appropriate adjustments. Inspects, services, and performs daily operation to hot water heating systems and low-pressure steam chillers. May break into refrigerant side. Aligns and replaces hot water heating, chilled water, and condenser water pumps.
  • Repairs and replaces components of air handlers and dampers inspects/cleans coils. Repairs/replaces variable blade axial fans. Repairs generator engines.
  • Shocks water heaters. Flushes and winterizes heating and cooling coils. Performs soldering or welding. Tests, cleans, lubricates, monitors, and inspects fire pumps and associated equipment.
  • Notifies supervisor of equipment or supplies in need of repair or replenishment, also of facilities in need of repair or upkeep.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Technical education/training in mechanical maintenance totaling two years and three years of applicable work experience. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Position may require specific licenses, certifications (i.e., HVAC, refrigeration, welder, engineer, etc.), education, or expertise (or the ability to receive a special engineer license on or before date of hire).
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of this position. Positions may require the ability to walk or stand for majority of day: bend, climb, reach, kneel; carry, lift, push and pull 50 lbs. or more.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating grounds and snow removal equipment to include tractor, skid steer, tool cat, etc.

Pay Rate: 34.13 per hour depending on education/qualifications/experience
