The International Standards Technical Manager will support the advancement of ULSE standards and related activities to drive the adaptation of international safety standards and advance the mission of UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE) to make the world safer, more secure, and sustainable. The International Standards Technical Manager will provide technical expertise in the development, revision, and maintenance of standards within IEC, ISO and within the broader international space, and manage activities throughout the project lifecycle, coordinating interdependencies and driving collaboration across teams to ensure seamless execution and successful project outcomes.

UL Standards & Engagement:

At UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE), we expand the boundaries of safety science to create a more secure and sustainable world. For more than a century, we have created new safety standards and shared our findings with academia, scientists, manufacturers, and policymakers across industries. We identify critical safety and sustainability issues, asking tough questions because we believe a safer world begins with knowledge.

Build a safer, more secure, and sustainable future with us. Join us and work with our Standards teams who develop the standards required to put that knowledge into practice.

What you'll learn and achieve:

As the International Standards Technical Manager, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL as you:

  • Serve as the primary technical authority for international safety standards by interpreting IEC and ISO requirements, advising on compliance strategies, and guiding internal adoption processes. Manage standards activities and apply deep expertise in electrical, mechanical, and functional safety to enable development, implementation, and continuous improvement of global safety standards.

  • Act as a recognized expert on technical components of the international standards development process, including drafting proposals, reviewing technical specifications, and advising on regulatory compliance frameworks. Provide authoritative input on engineering principles, risk assessment methodologies, and conformity evaluation.

  • Lead organizational participation in IEC and ISO Technical Committees, Working Groups, and Maintenance Teams, as well as U.S. TAGs, driving consensus on technical positions, influencing global standards development, and representing organizational interests through voting strategies and position papers.

  • Perform technical analysis of products, standards, and testing methodologies to identify gaps, validate compliance, and inform the creation of gap analyses, testing protocols, and technical reports that support product safety and regulatory alignment.

  • Integrate safety standards and requirements into end-product and service specifications, ensuring alignment with UL standards publications and advocating for their adoption in international frameworks.

  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders, including industry representatives, government agencies, regulatory authorities, and standards organizations, to influence technical decisions and advance organizational objectives in global standardization.

  • Drive cross-functional collaboration within the team, ensuring alignment on technical priorities, execution of standards activities, and achievement of team-level goals related to international safety compliance.

  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations and reports to internal and external stakeholders, representing ULSE at industry events, seminars, and trade shows to communicate technical positions and emerging trends.

  • Identify opportunities for program expansion and innovation, ensuring continuous evolution and relevance of international safety standards. Lead initiatives to create capacity for new high-impact standards addressing emerging technologies and global safety challenges.

  • Monitor and interpret industry trends, regulatory developments, and technological advancements to anticipate changes in international safety standards and proactively adjust organizational strategies.

  • Independently execute complex technical tasks, including risk mitigation strategies, standards integration, and compliance assessments, while ensuring timely and accurate outcomes.

  • Perform other duties as directed, applying technical judgment and standards expertise to support organizational objectives.
