Description

The Transportation Solution Division within the Leidos Civil group is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer who will be a member of a dynamic team working Future Flight Services Program (FFSP), providing briefing and flight planning for the nation's general aviation community.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end design of the human machine interface (HMI) ensuring optimal user experience (UX) and interaction flow adhering to product branding guidelines, technical specifications, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to effectively communicate design ideas and interaction behaviors.
  • Document interaction specifications, including visual design, navigation paths, and control logic.
  • Create and maintain user journey maps, personas, and use-case scenarios to drive user-centric design decisions.
  • Define and enforce HMI/UX design standards and guidelines across product lines to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Collaborate with customer and technical product owners to translate business requirements into compelling user experiences.
  • Define, track, and analyze key HMI/UX performance metrics to translate into design recommendation to improve user efficiency, safety, and engagement.
  • Review the FAA requirement documents, advisory circulars, and applicable regulations (e.g., 14 CFR parts) to extract intent, constraints, and acceptance criteria.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in human-computer interaction (HCI), UX Design, Cognitive Science, or similar related field and at least 4 years of relevant experience designing and deploying HMIs for large-scale web applications
  • Experience and familiarity with agile methodology and principles
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools and common HMI development frameworks or platforms
  • Familiarity of human factors engineering in a regulated safety-critical environment
  • Strong understanding of rigid engineering processes, including attention to detail
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication
  • Experience in engaging customers to understand needs, deliver solutions, manage expectations, and maintain an ongoing relationship
  • Ability to obtain SF-85 Public Trust Clearance Level
  • US Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with front-end development technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and/or analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics)
  • Knowledge of air traffic control systems, general aviation, and/or flight services.
  • Practical knowledge of FAA/DoD systems, technical policies, standards and orders.
