Target hiring range for this position will be between $56,782 - $58,629 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Compliance reports to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance & Regulatory Affairs and is responsible for assisting with the education and enforcement of NCAA, College Sports Commission (CSC), Big Ten Conference and Northwestern University rules and regulations for student-athletes, coaches, staff members, and donors.

The Assistant Director will provide primary compliance support to an assigned group of sport programs and oversee an assigned subset of the institution's athletics compliance objectives across the department of athletics and recreation while supporting the institution's competitive strategy.

*Willingness and ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference, CSC and the NCAA.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and advice on all aspects of NCAA, CSC and Big Ten rules for a subset of assigned sports, providing rules education, rules interpretations and other necessary services to coaches, support staff, and student-athletes in each program and to external constituents, where applicable.
  • Oversee and direct the Athletics Compliance Office framework for monitoring Initial Eligibility, Recruiting Activity and Playing and Practice Season and other assigned areas of regulation, as necessary.
  • Conduct and support audits and internal reviews of assigned areas to protect against systemic violations.
  • Maintain documentation and files/records for the Athletics Compliance Office, ensuring that all required NCAA, CSC and Big Ten documentation is up-to-date and preserved according to the institution's document retention policy.
  • Complete and submit requests for waivers of NCAA, Big Ten or CSC rules, where necessary.
  • Travel with the institution's sports programs to select away and postseason competition, as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum 1-year experience in a collegiate athletics department as a coach or administrator.

  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast paced environment and manage stressful situations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher preferred.

  • Experience working in an athletics compliance office.

  • Experience with Compliance Assistant, ARMS, Teamworks, CAPS, and NIL Go software.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of the NCAA, CSC, Big Ten Conference and/or Northwestern University.
