Description

The Medical Director Community Health and Advocacy will work closely with the Vice President of Community Engagement, the Community Mental Health CORE, and CHAI leadership; and interdisciplinary care teams to successfully develop and implement the community health advocacy strategic vision across the divisions. The Medical Director will collaborate with CNMC leadership to promote academic success for community health and advocacy faculty and related programs. The Medical Director will assist with representing both divisions in leadership meetings and philanthropic engagement.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
Medical Doctor (M.D.) Plus MHA or MPH highly desirable. (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
5 years Physician leadership role with demonstrated achievement community health and adocacy. (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Provide strategic planning support and guidance to community engaged clinical programs with in the Goldberg Center and CHAI, with a specific focus on coordination of efforts across programs and divisions, program evaluation, and alignment with the 5 Year Strategic Plan, CHNA and CHIA
Serve as a mentor to faculty in both divisions focusing on academic productivity in community health and advocacy, to include mentorship regarding goals and objectives, and guidance on grant writing, project planning and academic career planning
Work collaboratively with both divisions and the Children's Hospital Foundation to develop and implement a strategic plan for fundraising and donor cultivation
In collaboration with leadership of Goldberg Center, CHAI and other divisions as appropriate, provide strategic planning support, guidance and/or oversight (e.g. community mental health) to initiatives focused on the priority health conditions as reflected in the Community Health component of the 5 Year Strategic Plan).
Lead the coordination of communication and collaboration among divisions working on initiatives focused on the priority health conditions.

Board certification or board eligibility required. (Required)
Board eligible individuals must apply for certification within two years of appointment. (Required)

Functional Accountabilities
Department Strategic Planning

  • Contributes to the strategic plan for department services, including short-term and long-term objectives
  • Implements strategic plan through management of day-to-day operations of the department
  • Collects and analyzes customer feedback and evaluates department effectiveness
  • Incorporates findings into plans to modify program and service delivery

Program and Service Administration and Implementation

  • Develops, directs, implements and evaluates services, programs, policies and procedures, and performance standards to achieve departmental goals
  • Works with senior management, physicians, and community organizations to plan, develop, implement and monitor community outreach and health services in accordance with the institutional strategic plan
  • Maintains knowledge and expertise in areas of responsibility, leadership and change management, and general healthcare legislation
  • Creates, develops, and maintains an environment conducive to learning and growth for self and staff
  • Troubleshoots operational issues and develops action plans to resolve
  • Ensures compliance with CNMC policies and procedures, and regulatory standards

Human Resources and Relationship Management

  • Hires, trains, develops and directs assigned staff to meet departmental objectives
  • Ensures that performance evaluations, medical requirements and all other organizational circuit breakers for all staff are complete and on time
  • Monitors staffing plans/schedules to optimize productivity and ensure quality services
  • Establishes, builds and sustains professional contacts for the purpose of building networks of people with similar goals that support similar interests

Information Resources Management

  • Sees the potential in and understands the use of administrative and clinical information resources and decision-support tools in process and performance improvement
  • Actively supports the utilization and continuous upgrading of information management capabilities
  • Proficient in compiling and analyzing data to support upper management decision-making

Budget and Financial Management

  • Participates in financial planning and budget preparation
  • Manages department budget to ensure financial stability of the department
  • Tracks, monitors, and evaluates budget for all line items
  • Develops recommendations to meet budget requirements

Health Promotion & Disease Prevention Program Implementation

  • Cultivates formal linkages with primary care providers and community-based practitioners for health promotion and disease prevention
  • Establishes and maintains formal procedure for identification of community-based interventions
  • Designs and implements data driven community-based interventions focused on critical threats to child health and well-being
  • Builds communication capacity and creates and implement communication plan to local, regional and national stakeholders
  • Focuses on community health and wellness services as a growth opportunity for the organization and an essential component to fulfilling the mission

Partnership Building & Sustainability

  • Explores new services and programs and looks for opportunities to further develop and enhance relationship with the community
  • Works with public affairs department to position the hospital as a hospital of choice for patients in the community
  • Integrates the service of employee and volunteers into the work of the hospital and the community

Outcomes and Evaluation Planning and Management

  • Disseminates knowledge through publications and learning partnerships for both internal and external communities in a formal way
  • Implements rigorous program evaluation based on predetermined metrics and measures of success in all programs
  • Assesses parameters that ultimately impact the quality of a child's or family's life at a community level and incorporate as appropriate into program planning and evaluation
