Client: Well-Known E-Commerce Company Role: Senior Accountant (Temporary) Pay Rate: $55-$65/hr Duration: 6-8 weeks, with the possibility of extension based on performance! Location: Manhattan, NY - 2 days a week in office About the Role: This project-based Senior Accountant will focus on a critical initiative: reconciling a Sales Tax Payable account that has never been fully reconciled. The company has multi-state sales tax activity, and the internal team has completed only a few states to date (AL, AZ, and partially CA/IA/MD). A clear process exists, and this role will replicate that process across 46 states to bring all balances current. Key Responsibilities * Perform detailed reconciliations of the Sales Tax Payable account across ~46 jurisdictions. * Follow the internal reconciliation method already completed for several states (AL, AZ, CA, IA, MD). * Extract and compare large datasets from NetSuite (accounting system) and TaxJar (tax engine). * Match timing differences (e.g., booked one month, reported the next), identify stale entries, and clear incorrect balances. * Determine appropriate lookback period (begin with 1 month; extend deeper as needed). * Validate whether timely filing discounts were applied correctly (especially in states like Alabama). * Prepare clean schedules, documentation, and reconciliation workpapers for each state. * Work independently while providing periodic status updates to the internal accounting/tax team.
