What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Test Engineering Technician to join the General Assembly and Subassembly lines at the Megafactory. The Test Engineering Technician will play a crucial role in ensuring the operational availability of our production lines. They collaborate closely with cross functional engineering teams, as well as maintenance and process technicians, to sustain existing test equipment, and identify opportunities for continuous improvements.
What You'll Do
- Conduct test equipment for troubleshooting and hands-on repairs independently to meet OEE targets at assigned production lines and perform electro-mechanical tasks and maintain standard work procedures in collaboration with engineering teams (electrical panel wiring, frame/fixture assembly, test bench setup)
- Stay organized and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to manage multiple priorities and support resolving technical issues; utilize internal or third-party software tools to analyze tester outputs (Logs, CANbus traces) and identify the root cause of failures
- Support the production ramp of manufacturing lines using analytical problem-solving methods to troubleshoot components such as power supplies, sensors, contactors, diodes, etc.
- Work with hand tools, multi-meters, and testing equipment to diagnose electrical systems ranging from 24VDC to 600VAC
- Read and interpret tester code (e.g Python, Golang, etc) to assist the production team in diagnosis of line down situations and/or fault conditions
- Identify continuous improvement projects to improve equipment safety, operator ease of use, product quality and equipment uptime
- Thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities effectively
What You'll Bring
- 2+ years of experience in equipment maintenance within fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environments plus 2+ years hands-on experience wiring up/validating various hardware
- Ability to operate hand tools, multi-meters, and test equipment to diagnose electrical systems ranging from 24VDC to 600VAC
- Ability to follow mechanical drawings and electrical schematics with proficiency in fundamental computer skills such as Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Familiarity with Confluence and Jira
- Experience using test equipment (DMM, Oscilloscope, Variable DC power supplies, etc., plus Experience with pneumatic and fluid systems
- Must be comfortable around High Voltage and must be able to solder and crimp both large and small components and use basic shop tools (drill press, band saw, etc.)
- Exposure to coding and terminal shell commands (Python, Golang, C#, Bash or any high-level language)
- Exposure to database query (MySQL) and Experience with cable management and wire routing is a plus and knowledge of UL 508A and NFPA 79 standards are a plus
Essential Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day
- Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach
- Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
- Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, or hearing

Expected Compensation
$27.45 - $46.56/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
