Description
Senior Commodity Managers oversee strategic development and management of a commodity supply base that is highly dynamic and extremely impactful across NMG's most complex commodity categories. They play an important role in the supply chain and have duties such as new source selection, resourcing of complex work packages and holding suppliers accountable to delivery and quality performance expectations. The Senior Commodity Manager is the linchpin in the relationship between NMG and its key suppliers. Essential Job Functions:
- Effective planning and project management to develop strategic commodity strategies that include Domestic Sources and International Sources, identification of strategic partners; maintain, grow and exit suppliers.
- Develop and execute long-term supplier strategy deployment, supplier cost modeling, supplier opportunity assessments, supplier financial analysis, negotiations, long-term contracts, continuous supplier performance improvement, and supplier relationship development.
- Negotiate LTAs with best-in-class price, payment terms, quality levels, and delivery terms for purchased products in compliance with corporate objectives and year over year quantified commitments to improve cost/quality
- Coordinate and support on-site supplier assessment / certification audits and continuous improvement activities that drive down total cost and increase total supplier quality.
- Support Suppliers with effective root cause analysis for delivery and quality issues and implement corrective actions
- Manage supplier escalations from Tactical Teams and improvement plans if/when recovery schedules may be required
- Ensure accuracy of Lead-times in ERP System (conduct LT review annually)
- Achieve optimal inventory levels by running should be stock level models and developing solutions to reduce on hand inventory (JIT, Supplier Consignment, Near-site ware housing, etc.) to be in alignment with overall corporate inventory objectives
- Identify new and/or alternate sources of supply as necessary to support new product development, cost reduction requirements, and/or supplier performance issues.
- Evaluate medium to long-term supplier capabilities in an effort to optimize the commodity supply base in support of supplier reduction goals and objectives.
- Maintain a solid working knowledge of essential commodity trends including industry trends, cost drivers, global pricing, material lead times, and technical/manufacturing processes.
- Develop complex make vs. buy analysis with business cases justification for internal and external work scope packages and sourcing decisions
- Establish and develop strong long-term relationships with our suppliers and provide demonstrated leadership throughout each relationship. Develops and deploys effective commodity strategies based on long-term strategic business decisions with a solid understanding of the internal strategies of each internal value stream
- Ability to model industry capacity for a commodity as well as capacity at supplier partners to predict cost impacts and need to develop new sources
- Understands new technologies in manufacturing and works closely with Engineering and Operations to integrate into internal operations and commodity strategies with suppliers
- Promotes supplier development actively and continuous improvement initiatives that support ongoing supply chain performance improvement
- Performs onsite supplier reviews and assessments- with recommendations for capital improvements, new technology, dedicated cells, etc.
- Ability to develop and present complex business cases to executive leadership for projects such as: insource, outsource, procure capital equipment, additional floor space, rate of return on an investment.
- Develop supplier integration strategies- manufacture onsite and inventory on site- create the business case, implementation plan and legal agreements to execute these strategies
Additional Duties:
- Provide support for Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, companywide.
- Other duties, reporting, special assignments, or projects as needed and assigned.
- Must remain current with, and complete all required training as assigned.
- Must adhere to Company Corporate EHS Policy and department, occupation, and task specific safety protocols, including but not limited to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5-7 years' experience in manufacturing to include Supply Chain Management, operations and/or engineering responsibility, aerospace, industrial or automotive products preferred
- An industry recognized leader in their commodity or area of expertise
- Must be willing and able to travel domestically and globally 30%-50%
- Understanding of leading-edge Supply Chain Management techniques.
- 2-3 years Global Business Experience managing a complex commodity in International Markets (Asia, Mexico, Etc.)
- Strong ERP utilization experience and day to day experience with procurement processes
- Strong Analytical Skills - Experience with Cost Driver and Modeling, Data Analysis and Financial Analysis
- Advanced computer skills including MS Office - Word/Excel/Power Point
- Advanced negotiation, written and verbal communication skills
- Strong business acumen and solid understanding of Company Profit & Loss Statement
- Project Management Expertise, including complex product transitions
- Inventory Management experience
- Must submit to and satisfactorily pass any pre-employment screening required for employment with the Company.
- Must take medical exams required by law, in conjunction with occupation specific activities, the physical work environment, and ongoing industrial hygiene sampling results.
- Depending on assignment, may be required to use stairs, remain upright and/or seated for prolonged timeframes, intermittently reposition the body per various tasks performed, and use various tools and work-related supplies.
- May be required to perform manual lifting activities, not to exceed a 40lb lift performed by one individual.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in business, technical, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- MBA, CPM, CPSM preferred
