Purpose of the Job

This position is responsible for serving both internal and external customers by performing and assisting with a variety of laboratory procedures in accordance with Ridgeview Medical Center philosophy, policies, and procedures and in accordance with all regulatory agencies.

Job Functions


  1. Performs Histotech job functions
  2. Proactively identifies and acts upon improvement projects and opportunities through observation, data analysis, engagement with partners, review of external impact factors and best practices, as well as ongoing communication with leadership and staff.
  3. Responsible for oversight of the laboratory staff including directing work within the system and coordinating with laboratory director on quality needs as appropriate.
  4. Monitors quality assurance to improve laboratory processes including but not limited to: daily review of patient results; review and document quality control records; ensures instrument performance to include calibration, maintenance record review and troubleshooting and take remedial action as necessary; calculates productivity, quality assurance data and reports to laboratory management.
  5. Develops and maintains procedures, training and workflow efficiency and instrumentation.
  6. Performs quality control and proficiency testing.
  7. Shares responsibility for performance management for laboratory staff and is responsible for guiding, training, coaching and support. Motivates and empowers team members to do their best.
  8. Acts as a technical resource for Laboratory/Nursing personnel and Providers.
  9. Presents technical information to Laboratory personnel; discuss test results with Providers as requested.
  10. Maintains all regulatory requirements for the department in preparation for surveys and inspections.
  11. Assists with interviewing and selection of new employees.
  12. Evaluates new products and instrumentation as directed.
  13. Maintains adequate inventories for assigned areas.
  14. Assists with projecting budgetary needs and maintaining current budget.

Employment Requirements

Minimum Education/Work Experience

* Associate's degree in Histology or equivalent

License/Certifications

* Certified or Certification eligible as a Histotechnician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology board of registry or as a Histotechnician by the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel or equivalent per CLIA standards. Certification must be completed by the first year of employment and kept current according to ASCP standards

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities


  • Knowledge of basic computer functions and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
  • Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team
  • Ability to maintain technical competence

Compensation

Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation such as: the requirements of the position, experience, education, knowledge, and skills along with location and internal equity. Pay listed does not include any shift, weekend, or other differentials.
