Grant-funded The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation's leading advocacy organization for children's healthcare, is seeking a strong writer to manage and facilitate the translation of research evidence into practical guidance for the AAP Center of Excellence: Creating a Healthy Digital Ecosystem for Children and Youth (Center) grant, including the development of technical content and other written materials and resources, and management of workplans and timelines. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Social Media and Youth Mental Health, this role will manage relationships with internal and external partners to support the development of a catalog of evidence-based, culturally appropriate, practical resources for clinicians, educators, parents/families, youth, and youth-serving professionals around the risks and benefits of social media use. Some tasks include:
- Write, edit, and review new and updated content by translating research evidence into practical and easily accessible guidance for a variety of identified audiences, including web content, question and answer portal responses, tip sheets, toolkits, and reports to support social media best practices for youth.
- Manage and delegate participation in literature review, environmental scan, and other report development by external researchers.
- Provide input and suggestions around additional content development opportunities based on literature reviews and other evidence-based reports and products.
- Manage dissemination of evidence-based products including communications with external audiences and collaboration with Public Affairs colleagues to make content available publicly.
- Manage review of resources and products to ensure content aligns with Center framework, evidence-base, AAP policy, and other AAP mental and relational health activities, programs, and resources.
- Work with supervisor and grant staff to determine content creation priority and strategy for collaborating with internal and external partners to develop new and revised content that aligns with the grant's goals and objectives .
- Manage evidence-based content development workplans, tracking, and achievement of program goals and objectives.
- Oversee the work of external program evaluation subcontractor to ensure timely and effective implementation of evaluation plan, including outlining the process, evaluation questions, metrics, data collection methods, and reporting.
- Develop and enhance partnerships with national, regional, and state organizations and their respective constituents.
- Assist with the development of grant proposals, applications, and reports for the Center and other grants as requested.
- Attend team meetings, events, and conferences as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualified candidates will possess:
- Bachelor's degree in public health, health administration, health policy, health education, health communication, journalism, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required.
- At least two years' related experience in content development or communications required, including writing and editing various materials/resources, preferably with an emphasis on the practical application of health-related research evidence. Experience crafting messages for specific audiences including families and clinicians required. Experience in health education, child or adolescent health, or mental health initiatives; drafting educational resources; and working on grant projects preferred.
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, organizational, communication, and project management skills required. Must be able to take initiative, manage multiple projects simultaneously within tight deadlines, handle a heavy workload, work both independently and as part of team, think creatively, pay close attention to detail, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to fostering an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and respected. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office, the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with web maintenance/document collaboration platforms (e.g., SharePoint) and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., WebEx, Teams) preferred. Some travel and evening/weekend work required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate physicians' availability.
