GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Sports Sales Manager proactively drives business development to position Greater Green Bay as a premier destination for regional, national, and international sporting events. This role focuses on generating overnight stays, increasing visitor spending, and maximizing the overall economic impact of sports tourism for the Greater Green Bay area. The Sports Sales Manager cultivates relationships with event organizers and industry partners, while collaborating with hotels, venues, sports facilities, and community stakeholders to secure and successfully host high-impact sporting events.
RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Prospect, solicit, and close new business to achieve sales goals by working with planners, travel manager, national organizing bodies, procurement managers, training managers, and third-party companies, regionally, nationally, and world-wide in target markets.
- Execute the annual sports tourism sales plan, to reach defined targets for booked events, room nights, and economic impact.
- Identify and prioritize target markets, emerging sports sectors, and event types aligned with Greater Green Bay’s facilities and brand.
- Implement strategies and initiatives which attract sporting events, and other defined activities to greater Green Bay by soliciting assigned sales accounts and adding new ones.
- Research competitor destinations and industry trends to inform sales strategies and strengthen bid competitiveness.
- Develop and deliver compelling bid proposals and presentations in coordination with the marketing and leadership teams.
- Negotiate terms, contracts, and incentive packages with the assistance of VP of sales and Senior Sales Manager to secure sporting events that align with destination goals.
- Actively participate in local, regional, and national industry trade shows, sales missions, and networking events to generate leads and strengthen relationships promoting Greater Green Bay as a high-quality sports destination.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Department to create sports-focused promotional materials, presentations, and digital content that position Greater Green Bay as a top-tier sports destination.
- Conduct site inspections, assist with sales blitzes, and familiarization tours at greater Green Bay venues for prospective clients tailored to the needs of each organization and planner.
- Serve as a liaison between event clients and hospitality partners, including hotels, sports venues, and local facilities to book business.
- Transition booked business to the services specialist(s) through clear and thorough communication, ensuring successful event execution and client satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date client account and facility information within the organization’s chosen CRM system.
- Track and report key metrics such as leads, proposals, confirmed events, room nights, and estimated economic impact by utilizing the organization’s chosen systems.
- Research, identify, and pursue grants, sponsorships, and funding opportunities to enhance event feasibility and community benefit.
- Nurture strong relationships with local sports organizations, athletic associations, and community partners to identify event opportunities and support local hosting capacity.
- Stay current with best practices and innovations in sports tourism and destination marketing.
- Maintain a well-informed, working knowledge of the facilities and attractions available in Greater Green Bay to customers and act as a liaison between these entities and the customer.
- Demonstrates the company’s values and contribute to a positive and collaborative workplace culture.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Management, Communication, Sports Management, or related field required.
- Minimum two (2) years related work experience necessary.
- Proven record of achieving measurable sales goals, generating new business, and managing client relationships.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to build trust and influence diverse stakeholders.
- Analytical and organizational skills to interpret data, prepare reports, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM systems (Simpleview experience preferred).
- Strong collaboration skills with a commitment to learning, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to travel for state wide and nation wide for trade shows, client meetings, and site visits on a regular basis; availability for occasional evenings and weekends related to event schedules.
EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:
- Hardware and software systems including Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Simpleview CRM.
- Audio/Visual equipment such as projectors and other presentation/speaker related equipment.
- Trade show booths, displays and equipment associated with trade shows.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver’s license.
