The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief. This is a defining opportunity for a visionary leader to shape the future of surgery and advance one of the nation's most distinguished academic surgical departments to new heights of national and international prominence within a premier, research-intensive health sciences university. Located in Milwaukee along the shores of Lake Michigan, MCW is Wisconsin's largest private research institution and a nationally recognized leader in medical education, biomedical discovery, and patient care. The Department of Surgery at MCW is a highly accomplished and forward-looking academic department distinguished by excellence in patient care, education, research, and community engagement. With more than 100 full-time faculty and over 60 residents and fellows across 11 divisions, the Department delivers high-acuity, high-volume surgical care across all major subspecialties. Faculty provide advanced, patient-centered care at Froedtert Hospital, southeastern Wisconsin's only adult Level I Trauma Center, and at Children's Wisconsin, the state's only Level I Pediatric Surgery and Trauma Center, as well as at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center and affiliated community hospitals statewide. The Department maintains a robust and growing research portfolio supported by NIH and industry funding, with faculty advancing innovation across basic, translational, and clinical sciences. Its educational programs are nationally recognized for training the next generation of surgical leaders through exceptional mentorship, hands-on experience, and scholarly engagement. MCW seeks a visionary and strategic leader to guide the Department into a new era of growth, innovation, and national prominence. The Chair partners closely with the Dean of the School of Medicine, and hospital affiliates to shape and execute a bold, forward-looking vision that advances the Department's mission, elevates its impact, and positions it for long-term success. The Chair will lead efforts to expand clinical programs, strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, promote faculty and trainee development, and align departmental priorities with MCW's strategic goals, while upholding excellence in patient care, research, and education. The successful candidate will hold an MD, MD/PhD, DO, DO/PhD or equivalent degree from an accredited institution with board certification by the American Board of Surgery, and eligible for an unrestricted Wisconsin license, with a record of outstanding clinical, scholarly, and leadership accomplishments.
