OVERVIEW:

The Operations Manager - Food Warehouse oversees the daily operations of the Modesto Corps food distribution warehouse, ensuring effective management of inventory, logistics, food safety, compliance, and staff supervision. This role ensures the warehouse supports programs and Corps in providing food security services across the community in alignment with The Salvation Army's mission.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Oversee daily warehouse operations including receiving, storage, inventory, order fulfillment, and distribution.
  • Supervise and schedule warehouse staff, drivers, and volunteers to ensure efficient workflows and compliance with policies.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including OSHA, USDA, FDA, and food safety standards.
  • Coordinate logistics of inbound donations and outbound distributions to Corps, programs, and community partners.
  • Develop and maintain accurate inventory control systems and reporting; reconcile discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Implement and monitor safety and risk management protocols for staff and volunteers.
  • Partner with Finance and Program staff to track warehouse expenses, budgets, and grants compliance.
  • Ensure fleet management, including vehicle inspections, maintenance, and driver safety compliance.
  • Lead process improvements to increase efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and service quality.
  • Promote a mission-driven culture of respect, teamwork, and service.
  • Management and oversight of all duties within the Social Services Department, including program coordination, staff supervision, client support, and compliance with agency policies and funding requirements.
  • Perform day-to-day purchasing activities, including sourcing, obtaining quotes, and processing purchase orders.
  • Responsibilities may be adjusted or reassigned at the discretion of management to reflect department priorities or organizational changes.
  • Responsible for ordering and managing large quantities of food, commodities, privately donated goods and funds. Ensure accurate documentation, accountability, proper storage, and distribution in compliance with agency, funding, and donation guidelines.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:



  • Knowledge of food safety standards, OSHA regulations, and warehouse best practices.
  • Strong leadership and team management experience with diverse staff and volunteers.
  • Proficiency with inventory management software and Microsoft Office/Google Suite.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain a self-motivated and self-directed schedule.
  • Ability to address multiple projects in a time-sensitive manner.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's degree in business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in warehouse/operations management, preferably in food distribution or nonprofit sector.
    CA Driver's license required
  • Minimum two years of experience in social services, case management, or a related field.
  • Must have knowledge of community resources, confidentiality practices, and crisis response.
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills are essential.
  • Must demonstrate professionalism, cultural sensitivity, teamwork.

Qualifications
Education
Bachelors of Logistics /Supply Chain Management (required)
Experience
5+ years of experience in warehouse/operations management, preferably in food distribution or nonprofit sector (preferred)
Minimum two years of experience in social services, case management, or a related field. (preferred)
Must have knowledge of community resources, confidentiality practices, and crisis response. (preferred)
Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills are essential. (preferred)
