The Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard seeks a talented and highly motivated individual for Laboratory Operations Coordinator to plan and coordinate operational activities in support of the Cancer Program scientific projects. This position affords the exciting opportunity to support a large team of scientists working on cutting-edge genomics, cancer biology, and drug discovery and will work closely with other operational and administrative staff across the program. Broad Institute provides a vibrant research environment with close links to top academic institutions across the Boston Area.

The successful candidate will report to the Cancer Program's Laboratory Operations Manager and will work collaboratively with the program's scientific groups to support the day-to-day tactical needs of the teams that are being met and to ensure that our laboratories remain compliant with relevant policies and established protocols.

A foundational level of scientific knowledge, a hands-on approach to laboratory operations, strong customer service skills, along with a demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize competing priorities is required.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the Cancer Program's equipment inventory and maintains detailed records regarding all equipment related events.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate and/or execute equipment maintenance or repairs.
  • Organize and execute tasks related to lab operations including, but not limited to, conducting weekly environmental health and safety compliance inspections, coordinating proper routine equipment maintenance with the labs, and assisting with equipment troubleshooting as required.
  • Directly partnering with the Receiving Department on the acceptance and distribution of external packages, ensuring proper storage conditions and timely notifications to the end users.
  • Promote safety culture by assisting lab managers in the Cancer Program to ensure compliance with EH&S policies and initiatives.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying gaps and assisting in the implementations of solutions to problems, new policies, or procedures.
  • Assist lab managers with routine operational readiness as related to proper use and care of all lab equipment.
  • Respond to laboratory related tickets and equipment alarms in a timely manner and maintain detailed records and documentation related to inquiries and equipment events.
  • Assist with other laboratory operational duties as needed.

Requirements:

  • BS or BA in a related scientific field with 1-2 years of relevant experience, and/or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working in research laboratories and familiarity with standard laboratory operational procedures are required.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in this collaborative work environment.
  • Foundational understanding and awareness of the research techniques performed in the relevant laboratories.
  • High level of initiative and motivation; ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Have a strong sense of ownership of assigned tasks and duties and time management skills.
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to think creatively to propose and implement solutions.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases is strongly preferred.
  • Physical requirements related to routine equipment maintenance.

The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule. Broad provides pay ranges representing its reasonable and good faith estimate of what the organization reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, qualifications, and other factors permissible by law.
