DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Forensic Security Employee Trainee, you will have the opportunity to work with mentally ill patients who have been referred by the criminal justice system. Through a full-time training program, which includes formal instruction and close supervision, you will learn to provide care and treatment services for these individuals. Your duties will involve assisting patients with daily living activities and creating a safe and secure environment for them. You will also be trained to actively engage patients in a therapeutic manner according to their individual needs. Your work will take place at the secure Regional Forensic Psychiatric Center.

The first eight weeks of classroom training will be on day shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Following the classroom training, you will be assigned to one of two shifts with a requirement to work every other weekend. You must be able to rotate between the 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM shift and the 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM shift for the one-year training period. You will be assigned to each shift for four consecutive months before rotating to the other shift.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • You will work a rotating schedule with a 30-minute lunch and every other weekend off.
    • 1st shift: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM

    • 2nd shift: 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM

  • Overtime will be required as operationally necessary in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Completion of the tenth school grade; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
