Job Description Summary: The Database Engineer I implements and maintains complex databases following industry best practices in the Blue KC hybrid cloud technology landscape. This individual must be able to write and triage basic to intermediate level T-SQL. This individual protects company assets by safeguarding data integrity, access, and availability according to security procedures and policies and data governance best practices, while also providing service to data consumers. Individuals in this role will need to stay abreast of the IT Policies and security requirements with respect to data and databases. In the dynamic world of healthcare and IT, continuous learning is expected to remain current on new database platforms and technologies. Our ideal candidate will possess some skills in SQL Server and either have a development background or a system administrator background. The candidate must reside in the Kansas City Metropolitan area. Job Description
  • Will learn database administration fundamentals and how to perform them
  • Will learn our enterprise scheduling tool along with the database teams jobs and their schedule
  • Performs implementations, upgrades, and use of database software, including utilities, administrative tools, job scheduling and scripting. Creates and schedules batch jobs. Writes scripts to accomplish administrative processing. Utilizes administrative tools to change, troubleshoot, and fix the database and data-related environments.
  • Possesses the technical knowledge or demonstrates the ability to research and interpret vendor documentation on database features and requirements
  • Ensures their skills are kept current with new technologies and database platforms that are brought into Blue KC or existing platforms for which they are assigned to be the primary DBA.
  • Performs general database administrationand development tasks as needed.
  • Ensures compliance with corporate policy for security and privacy asitimpactsdatabase access and privileges.Followsdata integrity best practices toguaranteereferential integrity, completeness,andaccuracy of database contents. Ensures environmental security and monitoring mechanisms are performing properly toguaranteeavailability of the data to end users and applications.
  • Ensures business continuity with appropriate backup and recovery processes, failover procedures, and testing toguaranteepoint-in-time recovery for avoiding all types of data loss, including major catastrophic disaster.Ensuresthatall backup and recovery processes and procedures are kept currentandin alignment withphysicalproduction data environments,andthat modificationsrequired bybusiness continuity testsare made.
  • Participates in the on-call rotation and acceptsand respondsto automated notifications of support situations. Supports entire database environment,identifiespeer team membersforassistance, and provides support and guidance to DBAs in a timely manner to support the service levels required by the business.
  • Communicates technical information, in business terms as required, to users, technical staff, and management in both verbal and written form.
  • Employs a continuous improvement approach while adhering to established procedures and processes.
  • Creates or updates process documentation and flows as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Systems Analysis, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 years of technical relevant experience.
  • Experience administering or developing code utilizing reading from a current release of one of the following platforms: Microsoft's SQL Server, MySQL on Linux, Snowflake, SQLDb in Microsoft Azure, Azure Synapse, IBM's UDB (DB2) on AIX, Cosmos DB in Microsoft Azure, PostGres, MongoDb, or MySQL in Microsoft Azure.
  • Abilityto write and understand basic to intermediate level SQL.
  • Abilityto troubleshoot technical issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experiencewith scripting languages such as AIX or powershell.
  • Experience with Ansible and Python.
  • Experience with cloud database platforms.
  • Experience with coding and development practices.
