Position Summary:

The Associate Applications Engineer, Grippers is responsible for assisting in the tasks of providing customer product application assistance, technical support, proposal drawings, special designs or modifications to existing products via phone or email including inside/outside sales and customer service. S/he works in conjunction with Application Engineers to provide customer assistance for product applications. For orders received, s/he would be responsible for supporting customer design reviews, creating and releasing designs to manufacturing and final product documentation under the guidance of an Applications Engineer. S/he possesses lower-level CAD experience and is on a path to complete proficiency.

The Associate Applications Engineer, Grippers reports to the Director, Global Product Engineering and is located in Auburn Hills, MI. This position requires some travel. This position requires the ability to work and to communicate globally and virtually with those in Sales, Product Engineering, Customer Service, Marketing and Manufacturing.

Key Job Responsibilities included but not limited to:

  • Promotes safety awareness with other members of the organization. Promotes accident prevention and employee involvement regarding a safe work environment.
  • Supports the continuous improvement roadmap for the organization. Leverages continuous improvement tools to drive continued operational improvements.
  • Processing ECN's and design changes for current product.
  • Provides customer application assistance and product support for customer questions by phone & email.
  • Provides proposal drawings, concepts for special designs or modification drawings to existing products based on customer and sales inquiries.
  • On received orders, works along with Applications Engineers or Supervisor to provide manufacturing and assembly designs for tooling solutions for automated systems, material handling end effectors, manipulator configurations or special product designs based on standard product.
  • Directed design tasks consist of detailed manufacturing drawings, 3D assembly models and CAD files. Provided to Applications Engineer or Supervisor for check.
  • Generates bill of material (BOM) and enters part numbers into Oracle for manufacturing release.
  • Through direction from Engineer or Supervisor creates product and design documentation, maintenance manuals and spare parts lists when required.
  • Assists with customer design reviews.
  • Works with manufacturing and assembly personnel to prepare for customer buyoffs if required, by validating assembly to design intent.
  • Supports manufacturing and assembly on warranty issues.

Job Requirements:

Experience:

  • Requires 2-4 years of design or technical support experience in the field or in a related area with mechanical/electrical design, industrial automation and assembly experience.
  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the engineering field such as: APQP, FMEA, FEA, and 8D problem solving.
  • Working knowledge of design software Solid Works, Catia or NX.

Education and Certification Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering preferred but not required.

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
