JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking an experienced and agile Head of Global Medical Affairs, reporting to the Chief Data Innovation Officer to lead our global medical affairs function. This role is central to leading our medical strategy within the context of BioCryst business priorities, while ensuring seamless execution across field medical, publications, and operational functions.

Building on BioCryst's strong foundation, this leader will leverage existing strengths and infrastructure to drive innovation, enhance productivity, and deliver exceptional value to the organization. Success in this role requires a balance of strategic insight, creative problem-solving, relentless collaboration, and disciplined execution-fostering scientific excellence, compliance, and meaningful engagement with internal and external stakeholders. #LI-Remote

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Strategy



  • Lead and evolve the Medical Affairs strategy in alignment with corporate objectives and product lifecycle needs.
  • Build and manage a high-impact MSL team, ensuring scientific engagement excellence and field insights generation.
  • Oversee the development and execution of scientific publication plans and medical communications.
  • Drive operational excellence across Medical Affairs, including budget management, systems, and process optimization.



Cross-Functional Collaboration



  • For marketed products partner closely with SDIO (Strategic Data Insights & Operations), HEOR, Commercial, and Global Strategy teams to ensure integrated medical strategy & execution.
  • For pipeline assets collaborate with R&D, Clinical, Regulatory, SDIO, and Commercial to support product development and launch readiness.


Innovation Leadership



  • Identify and develop opportunities to differentiate the medical strategy and create new value for patients and stakeholders in underserved markets or untapped customer segments.
  • Champion innovative approaches to scientific engagement, data generation, and knowledge dissemination with a goal of optimal patient outcomes.


External Engagement



  • Cultivate relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), academic institutions, and professional societies.
  • Represent the company at scientific and medical conferences, advisory boards, and external forums.



EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Advanced degree (MD, PharmD, or PhD) in a scientific discipline required.
  • 15 years of progressive leadership experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry within the rare disease space.
  • Demonstrated success in leading MSL teams, publications, and medical operations.
  • Experience working in matrixed environments with strong collaboration across R&D, Commercial, and HEOR.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
