Requisition Number:R155420 CNRV Acute Care Surgery APP (NP/PA) (Open) How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:The Acute Care Surgery Service (ACS) at has an exciting opportunity for an Advance Practice Provider (APP) looking to join the ACS team at Carilion New River Valley (CNRV). CNRV is a 110-bed acute care facility, and Level III Trauma Center, offering modern medical ORs, state of the art technology and multiple surgical and medical specialties. ACS is the umbrella surgery service covering three divisions: Trauma, Emergency General Surgery (EGS), and Surgical Critical Care (SCC). The ACS service at CNRV has EGS and trauma within the facility. The CNRV ACS APP will work with both services. The Carilion ACS APP leadership structure is made up of APPs and is focused on optimizing and supporting the performance of the APP group to improve productivity, job satisfaction, talent utilization and maximization of scope of practice. Distinct functions of the APP position include patient management, clinical decision making, bedside procedures (including bedside incision and drainage, chest tube placement/ removal, wound repair, wound management, drain management, central lines, dialysis catheters, arterial lines), and teaching of patients, family and staff. Other opportunities may include research involvement, quality and process improvement, peer review committees and shared governance. The APP will perform the following: admissions, history and physicals; order and interpret tests; make preliminary diagnosis; treat injuries/illness; assist with surgical procedures; counsel patient and/or prescribe medication, discharges. The APP works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including Attending Physicians, Residents, other APPs, medical and APP students, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Pharmacists, Case Managers, Social workers, Consultants and more. The team's goal is to deliver high quality, best practice, timely, cost-effective care. The APP will provide care from the initial consult throughout the hospital stay. The APP maintains a strong patient- and family-centered focus throughout the hospital stay and plays a vital role in managing complex social situations, planning a safe and successful discharge, and ensuring appropriate follow-up to reduce the risk of readmission. Conducts comprehensive health histories. Performs physical, psychological, and developmental assessments using appropriate techniques based on the patient. Assesses and manages acute illness, pregnancy, minor trauma and chronic illness and conditions. Analyzes and interprets health data. Provides quality service in a caring and professional manner. Actively commits to team efforts, provision for cost effectiveness, service excellence, and respect for everyone by demonstrating actions which support Carilion Clinic. Reviews normal and abnormal physical, psychological, and developmental findings, and appropriately determines when to consult with and/or refer to other members of the health care team. Initiates, implements, and prescribes appropriate treatment plans consulting with the physician as needed. Administers medications and injections as appropriate. Performs or requests laboratory and screening tests. Conducts preventive screening procedures based on age and history. Records changes in health status and assessment findings, documenting actions and determines the effectiveness of the plan of care and revises as necessary to achieve medical and health goals. Provides patient/family education, develops plans for continued health care management, and promotes health maintenance activities for patients. Promotes wellness through health education. Coordinates necessary appointments and referrals, including the use of community resources as indicated by patient needs. Utilizes automated computer systems, including electronic medical records. Documents patient information, in a timely manner, including updates to treatment procedures, medication refills requests, test results, patient concerns. Acts as a resource to patients, other health team members, the community, and various academic institutions. What We Require: Education: Graduate of an Accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience: 0 Licensure/Certification: Current state Licensed Nurse Practitioner (LNP), DEA license and Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required. AHA BLS-HCP certification required. Advanced Life Support certification preferred. Eligible for prescriptive authority in accordance with State regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine. Other: Able to work collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers, good written and oral communication skills. Computer literacy required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
