An Engineering Manager is an experienced engineer who manages technical activities and team(s) of engineers, related professionals, and support personnel. This manager has already proven herself/himself to be a highly competent engineer, who showed a sense of ownership, teamwork, and responsibility. The work of an engineering manager requires a combination of skills and knowledge including engineering expertise, personnel management, leadership skills, and financial and business acumen. The duties of an engineering manager include planning, designing, and overseeing projects, as well as managing finances and supervising one or more engineering teams.

Job Summary:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for hiring, supervising, and guiding multiple engineering teams, modeling winning behaviors in every interaction. This role fosters a collaborative environment where team members feel empowered to take ownership of their work and support one another. The manager identifies training opportunities and career development strategies, encourages continuous learning and growth, and sets clear expectations while holding team members accountable and celebrating achievements. The Engineering Manager leads by example in demonstrating integrity, transparency, and a positive attitude, even in challenging situations.

Organizationally, the Engineering Manager provides developmental opportunities for employees and is a critical part of the employee development and succession planning process, essential for building high-performing organizations.

Administratively, the Engineering Manager manages the technical disciplines of Tesco Controls' Engineering department, mentors technical team members concerning methods, procedures and standards, and acts as a subject matter expert to ensure prompt resolution of issues affecting project deliverables

Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Work with the Engineering Management team to define and develop departments' goals and targets, and ensure the goals and targets are cascaded down to the rest of the team and are measured against the KPIs established, while promoting a culture of accountability and excellence
  • Take ownership of project handovers from Sales into Engineering, ensuring technical requirements are understood and providing a clear framework for execution teams
  • Assign engineering resources based on skills and competencies, acting as a "Subject Matter Expert" and encouraging team members to take initiative and collaborate for optimal results
  • Ensure all engineering teams comply with quality requirements and meet the project schedule and budget requirements
  • Support the Project Management team by addressing technical concerns with internal and external stakeholders, modeling effective communication and problem-solving
  • Provide engineering expertise throughout estimation, sales, manufacturing, testing, installation, commissioning, and operations, always seeking opportunities to innovate and improve processes
  • Serve as a technical and business liaison, preparing briefings for senior management and assisting in problem resolution, while promoting transparency and trust
  • Review design tools, procedures, and processes to ensure compliance with standards and recommend improvements that simplify workflows and enhance efficiency
  • Is responsible for maintaining a high utilization rate of resources. Monitor engineering capacity and resource utilization, providing accurate estimates and advocating for the best use of talent
  • Is responsible for increasing department efficiency by developing templates/standards, and simplifying processes and tools
  • Gather and analyze information during and after project execution, recommending and implementing continuous improvement initiatives that reflect winning behaviors

The candidate should possess and have demonstrated the following skills.

  • Leadership - Strong leadership skills that are essential for boosting morale, resolving conflicts, assigning team members roles in which they are likely to succeed, and encouraging and maintaining team productivity
  • Communication - Clear, effective communication to ensure the team understands expectations, adheres to project tasks and deadlines, and provides upper management with updates on project progress
  • Technical - Experience in engineering management in the water/waste-water industry or an equivalent regulated industry, reviewing technical specifications and drawings, identifying project scopes, and developing technical deliverables and efficient technical solutions
  • Management - Organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to complete tasks like meeting deadlines, setting goals, delegating responsibilities, tracking budgets, and making the best use of available resources
  • Innovation - Ability to tackle problems, provide ideas, and develop strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and/or operations
  • Decision-Making - Soft skills needed to make informed, rational decisions, assess all facts, and choose the best course of action

Education and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical, Controls, and Industrial Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Master of Science (M.S) Degree preferred
  • Electrical, Controls, Instrumentation engineering design principles, and methodologies
  • Electrical/Controls Engineering codes and Standards in a regulated industry
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access) and Adobe Acrobat
  • AutoCAD/ AutoCAD Electrical

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as an Engineer in electrical, controls, or Instrumentation
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in managing, supervising, and leading Engineering teams
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage change, organize and prioritize complex engineering projects
  • Experience in a regulated industry is preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Light physical effort equal to frequent lifting or moving of lightweight materials
  • Regularly required to sit or stand, bend and reach

Work Environment:

  • Work performed in an office environment
  • Work support in the production/ manufacturing environment
  • Occasional site visits/ field investigation trips required

Pay offered will be based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, and geographic location. We may pay more or less than the range based on the person's qualifications. In good faith we believe the range is what we will pay for this role at the time of the posting and may change in the future. In addition, Tesco offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, vacation, holidays, and 100% 401K match of your contributions up to 4% of your earnings.
