What to Expect

As part of the testing side of the Vehicle Dynamics Modelling Team, the role is responsible for the collection, processing, and management of objective tire performance data for attribute development and improving tire models. You'll have the opportunity to travel to proving grounds for high and low mu testing and develop models that correlate to the collected data. You'll be expected to work with tire suppliers and engineers across several teams at Tesla, including vehicle dynamics, chassis, controls, autopilot, and more. This is a hands-on role requiring a high level of self-direction, proven ability and flexibility.


What You'll Do
  • Create, manage, and maintain tire test trailer procedures and schedule to derive high-confidence objective tire data and communicate findings in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to select, plan, and allocate test samples and execute test cases
  • Develop and extend virtual tire models using the collected physical data to integrate with vehicle-level models and better predict tire performance, especially in low mu scenarios
  • Coordinate with test trailer supplier to troubleshoot issues, kick off calibration activities, and improve the product for better data integration
  • Process and interpret Flat Trac data collected at third party facilities to correlate with real-road data collected from test trailer

What You'll Bring
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in tire development, including modeling, testing, instrumentation, and data analysis
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Creative problem-solving mindset with an interest in exploring new ideas and approaches
  • Proficiency with Simulink, Python, C, and similar firmware environments is a plus
  • Experience in developing performance goals for various vehicle specifications, markets, controls, and autonomous vehicles is a plus

    Expected Compensation
    $84,000 - $204,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
