THE OPPORTUNITY

Colliers Mortgage is seeking an ambitious and detail-oriented Legal Intern to join our Legal Department for the 2026 Summer Internship Program. Working directly under the supervision of the General Counsel, this internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to the legal and regulatory framework that supports a national commercial real estate finance platform.

You will learn how the in-house legal function operates within a commercial mortgage banking and securities firm, supporting loan origination, servicing, asset management, and corporate operations.

THE PROGRAM

Spanning roughly 10 weeks from early June through early to mid-August 2026, the Legal Internship is designed to offer a mix of practical project work, legal research assignments, and structured learning sessions. You will collaborate closely with attorneys and senior management across Colliers Mortgage and Colliers Securities, gaining direct insight into the business's legal, compliance, and operational aspects.

By the end of this internship, you will have developed a professional understanding of:

  • The role of in-house counsel in a financial services organization
  • The legal and regulatory framework surrounding commercial mortgage banking and securities
  • Key agreements used in real estate finance, including loan documents, engagement letters, and servicing agreements
  • Contract review, risk analysis, and negotiation principles
  • Corporate governance and entity management
  • Data privacy, licensing, and compliance considerations
  • The intersection of legal, credit, and business operations in supporting company growth

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • Current enrollment in a pre-law or accredited law school program
  • Demonstrated interest in real estate, finance, or corporate law
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational ability
  • Professional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) is preferred

JOB EXPECTATIONS

This internship is on-site in our Downtown Minneapolis office. Regular and reliable attendance Monday-Thursday (Fridays off) is required. You will work closely with the General Counsel and other members of the leadership team in a collaborative, fast-paced environment that emphasizes mentorship, learning, and professional development.
