Position Summary:

This position is responsible for providing analytical support for fuel procurement and power generation trading and dispatch models used to support the economic planning and operation of Duke Energy's $6B multi-commodity fuel & power portfolio and 50 GW+ regulated thermal and renewable generation fleet. Primary areas of responsibility include production cost modeling, dispatch pricing, position management,outage scheduling support, budgeting and rates analysis.

Responsibilities:
  • Production Cost Modeling: Define and update key inputs, run stochastic models, and summarize and present results for both technical and business audiences.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders across Fuels & System Optimization, Rates, Financial Planning, Wholesale, Environmental, Resource Planning, Engineering, and Accounting teams.

  • Dispatch Pricing: Provide fuel price inputs for short-, mid-, and long-term production cost models. Support commodity price curve reviews.

  • Model Accuracy & Improvement: Evaluate model performance by comparing forecasts to actuals. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

  • Ad-Hoc Analysis: Conduct analyses to support outage scheduling, deal evaluation, scenario planning, reliability assessments, and integration of renewable energy technologies.

  • Visualization: Create tools to clearly communicate changes in model inputs and outputs.

Required/Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Accounting, Data Science or Other Related Degree

  • In lieu of Bachelor's degree(s) listed above, High School/GED AND four (4) or more years related work experience

Required/Basic Qualifications for Senior Level:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Accounting, Data Science or Other Related Degree

  • In addition to required degree, five (5) or more years related work experience

  • In lieu of Bachelor's degree(s) AND five (5) or more years related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND nine (9) or more years related work experience

Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Business, Engineering, Accounting, Data Science or Other Related Degree

  • Highly proficient with Excel and data visualization tools such as Power BI

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with ability to communicate technical subjects to a wide range of audiences.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • A general understanding of electric, gas, oil or coal industries is desirable

  • Experience with production cost models

  • General understanding of corporate accounting and finances

  • Understanding of probability distributions, stochastic processes, tail risk estimation

  • Programming skills in data science/mathematical software packages and/or interest in Python, Matlab

Working Conditions
  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.
