JOB SUMMARY


The Quality Control Inspector plays a vital role within the Quality Control team, ensuring that all cables, wire harnesses, and electronic assemblies meet the highest quality standards in a fast-paced contract manufacturing environment. Working in compliance with IPC/WHMA standards, the Inspector performs detailed incoming, in-process, and final inspections to verify conformance to specifications, drawings, manufacturing instructions, and assembly aids. Responsibilities also include preparing and completing AS9102 First Article Reports and other quality documentation using Microsoft Office.


The QCI position supports the QC testing team as needed, performing electrical testing on harnesses and cables to ensure that complex assemblies meet customer and regulatory requirements. Inspection activities are performed using visual magnification tools and precision instruments such as calipers, rulers, force gauges, goniometers, torque wrenches, and other calibrated equipment. Inspectors work collaboratively with the Quality Manager, Production personnel, and Engineering personnel to resolve nonconformances and maintain a consistent focus on quality improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties as assigned.



  • Interprets industry standards and customer provided design documentation to determine acceptability criteria.
  • Examines assemblies for physical defects such as mis-wires, solder bridges, opens, missing or incorrect components, bent pins and other damaged components.
  • Compares hardware on assemblies, subassemblies, and parts to parts list to verify assembly
  • Rejects discrepant assembly, part, or component and records type and quantity of defects.
  • Measures parts to verify accuracy of dimensions utilizing micrometers, calipers and other various measuring scales.
  • Sorts nonconforming assemblies for rework or disposition by the Quality Manager.
  • Maintains records of inspection process, progress and results and informs management of results.
  • Prepares First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR) compliant to AS9102
  • Input Defect / Yield data into Quality database.
  • Collaborates with production staff to efficiently resolve non-conformances and establish rework requirements.
  • Works under minimal supervision from Quality Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Is consistently at work and on time. Must adhere to company policies and specified work schedule.

Salary Range
$19.00 - $22.00
Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:



  • High school diploma with at least 2 years direct experience in assembly and quality inspection of cables and wire harnesses, with ability to read and understand, manufacturing instructions, operating procedures engineering drawings, schematics, bills of material and specifications for the use of inspecting assemblies.
  • WHMA/IPC-A620 (as applicable) certification is required or must be attained.
  • ESD, J-Std-001, and Fiber Optic termination experience preferred.


SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:



  • Must be a US Citizen due to Naval Contractual Agreements.
  • Ability to read and understand, manufacturing instructions, operating procedures engineering drawings, schematics, bills of material and specifications.
  • Ability to utilize calipers, micrometers, optical inspection machine, and electronic test equipment as a means of inspection.
  • Ability to learn & perform multiple tasks with excellent organization and prioritization, in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality System (AS9100 preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Strict attention to detail.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Adherence to all Safety and PPE Requirements


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to sit, stand, walk, use computers, read, write, type, use copy machines, file paperwork, use telephones, and utilize written and oral communication to interact with clients, co-workers, and customers.


Exerting up to 10 pounds of force regularly, and occasionally up to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.


Specific vision abilities required by this job include close visual acuity to perform activities such as: inspecting manufactured parts (with and without magnification), preparing/analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and ability to distinguish colors and color variation of physical parts and components, and in documentation such as work instructions and engineering drawings.

WORKING CONDITIONS:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.


The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
