Computer Operator I/Data Collector - WSMR TEAS **Part Time**

Job Description
The Computer Operator I monitors and operates the control console of either a mainframe digital
computer or a group of minicomputers, in accordance with operating instructions, to process data.
Included within the scope of this definition are fully qualified Computer Operators, trainees working to
become fully qualified operators, and lead operators providing technical assistance to lower-level
positions. The Computer Operator I works under close personal supervision and is provided detailed
written or oral guidance.
Duties and Responsibilities

* Studies operating instructions to determine equipment setup needed
* Loads equipment with required items (tapes, cards, paper, etc.)
* Switches necessary auxiliary equipment into system
* Diagnoses and corrects equipment malfunctions
* Reviews error messages and makes corrections during operation or refers problems
* Maintains operating record
* May test run new or modified programs and assists in modifying systems or programs before and
during assignments
* Resolves common operating problems
* May serve as an assistant operator working under close supervision or performing a portion of a
more senior operator's work
* Conducts data entry, quality control checks of data, and investigate anomaly and request for
information data
* Responsible for recording the data authentication group meeting notes and tracking requests for
information
* Responsible for accounting for all data into and out of the data management cell
* May be responsible for scanning paper-based data products to digital format and shredding the
paper-based copies
* Performs regular computer operator duties, e.g., saving files, perform and maintain backups of
designated computer systems, perform data management functions, scan images and text, prepare
CD-ROMs/DVDs and advanced test data, archiving, transferring/downloading of both unclassified
and classified encrypted data, perform first echelon maintenance activities
* Maintains clean work area
* Performs duties in a secure vault area

* Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Skills and Qualifications

* Must have 1 year of relevant work experience
* Must be familiar with the Microsoft Windows operating system and the use of Microsoft Office
products
* Must be knowledgeable of and adhere to security regulations
* Must follow Government approved data handling procedures, standard operating procedures and label media and equipment with proper security markings
* Must be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English
* Must be able to work both as part of a team and independently
* Must be proficient in communications
* Must be capable of learning nomenclature
* Must be able to become familiarized with basic functionality, operations and components of relatively technical and complex systems

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

* Knowledge of electronics and prior work experience in government testing office environment

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

* The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment and sometimes in the field where you are subject to the environment
* In specific cases, data collection tasks will require personnel to be sufficiently physically fit to work outdoors or in and around tactical vehicles in austere conditions
* Must be capable of sitting and entering data on a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
* Must be able to view computer monitor for extended periods of time
* Must be able to lift 25 pounds unassisted

Terms of Employment and Eligibility Requirements

* Must be a U.S. Citizen
* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
* Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions
* Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
* Must be able to successfully complete a background check
* Must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to employment and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment
