Position description

The Robert A. Mah Molecular Innovation Center (MIC), at the University of California, Irvine, is seeking a full-time Academic Coordinator. The MIC is a place where brilliant minds unite across health disciplines to pioneer drug design and discovery, transforming the landscape of healthcare. The Academic Coordinator, under the supervision of the MIC Director, will support the MIC's mission through comprehensive coordination and day-to-day administration of projects and initiatives in support of the Director and Center. Duties include:



  • Monitor and enforce MIC compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards and UC/UCI policy
  • Liaise and coordinate activity with the Facilities Director, Building Manager, and EHS Coordinator
  • Purchase, receive, and manage supplies and equipment
  • Maintain record of capital assets for quarterly audits and annual reporting
  • Coordinate keycard access and perform quarterly audits
  • Create and update MIC guidelines, SOPs, and operational systems
  • Organize and coordinate researcher training for use of MIC instruments
  • On-boarding of MIC research support (including students and postdocs)
  • Events Management (seminars, conferences, presentations, fund raising events)
  • Support crafting of documents and approval for IACUC, HSCRO, and IRBs
  • MIC fiscal management (crafting proposal budgets, liaising with the school finance team)
  • General administrative support including mail, room scheduling, calendaring assistance, recording meeting minutes, reimbursement processing, forms processing, space allocation requests, building access for office hours, printing needs, etc.
  • Organizing annual scientific and budget reports
  • Manage inquiries for utilization of MIC services/expertise from outside groups
  • Provide periodic MIC communication emails to keep faculty informed of current topics that affect operations and success of the Center



The ideal candidate will have experience working in a higher education setting and with EHS compliance, purchasing, facilities coordination, fiscal management, equipment/service contracts, training, scheduling, space/admin support, communications, and special events.

The Academic Coordinator position is a one-year renewable term appointment with benefits, including medical insurance, sick and vacation leave. Performance in this position is evaluated annually; merit evaluations are held every two years.
