Currently recruiting a Psychology Technician to provide care to active duty military members and their families at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. The Psychology Technician is a full-time position, 80 hours per two weeks, schedule can vary. The normal hours of work are Monday through Friday between the hours of 0600 to 2100;shifts may vary 8, or 10 hour to include day and evenings, excluding Federal Holidays. Full benefits, including 17 days paid vacation/sick leave and 11 paid Federal holidays.

DUTIES OF THE PSYCHOLOGY TECHNICIAN:

  • Diagnostic screening/interviewing, including administering, scoring and reviewing screening instruments.
  • Provisions of individual and group counseling services.
  • Interdisciplinary treatment planning and coordination.
  • Facilitating educational, skilled-based, and relapse prevention groups.
  • Facilitating other therapeutic groups under the supervision of a licensed provider.
  • Supervising administration of psychological tests and scoring for results for review and interpretation by a licensed psychologist.
  • Case management and follow-up services provided to program participants.
  • Contributing to the achievement of performance and outcomes measures and quality assurance goals.
  • Familiarity with motivational interviewing and stages of change is highly desirable.
  • Monitor, escort and/or act as a therapeutic participant in patient activities in a therapeutic milieu.
  • Utilize therapeutic assessment and interview skills to illicit accurate and concise accounts of the patient's condition.
  • Document patient care using proper terminology that is in accordance with clinic policies.
  • Utilize sound judgment and de-escalation/crisis intervention skills, including physical restraint to prevent or reverse situations which may be potentially harmful.
  • Follow command clinic specific policies for Seclusion/Restraint, Elopement and Management of the Assaulted patient if applicable.
  • Be able to set limits and interact one on one with the patients. Attend and participate in groups (Co-Facilitator).
  • Screen patients to determine presenting problems and priority. This may entail telephone triage or in-person evaluation. Perform basic assessment procedures, including initial screening evaluation. Assist credentialed providers with identifying mental health diagnosis and treatment strategies, as well as providing patient education. Administer various screening instruments under supervision by a credentialed provider.
  • Assist in providing specialized treatment and rehabilitation of addiction patients. Assist in conducting individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Observe, monitor, report and record patient interaction and progress. Institute precautionary measures to prevent patient injuries due to suicide, homicide or elopement.
  • Present or facilitate a variety of health and wellness programs in support of the clinic.
  • Provide care to addiction patients and participate in rehabilitation and treatment programs.
  • Co-facilitate prescribed individual or group therapy sessions as part of specific therapeutic procedures and independently facilitate educational groups.
  • Prepare all records and reports as may be required in support of services rendered and as required by the MTF Standard Operating Procedures, Federal Law, or Service Regulation. All written reports and documentation shall be legible and/or entered correctly in ESSENTRIS, AHL TA or CHCS and shall be considered property of the government Complete all documentation in a timely manner, as determined by MTF policy.
  • Assist in data collection and data analysis, when requested.
  • Comply with all safety procedures and practices associated with the facility and OSHA.
  • Assists with clinic unit related administrative tasks.
  • Supports the Culture of Excellence initiative and adheres to the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital professional standards.


QUALIFICATIONS OF THE PSYCHOLOGY TECHNICIAN:

  • Degree/Education: Psychology technician must have a bachelor's degree and at least two years of graduate study in psychology at an accredited college or university (transcripts are required.) Master's degree in psychology is highly desirable.
  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: providers shall possess and maintain current course completion documentation for basic life support (BLS) through an American Heart Association recognized program. Competencies or self-assessment skills checklists testing will be forwarded to the contract COR for proof of skills in substance abuse treatment prior to hire as part of the pre-employment package.
  • Experience: Have at least at least 2 years technical experience under the supervision of a professional psychologist in a clinical setting, preferably in an inpatient/residential or partial hospitalization program in the past two years. Addictions experience highly desirable.
  • US Citizenship required (for access to government computer systems).
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers
