Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The goal of the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention ( HPDP) is to prevent chronic disease and reduce health disparities. Investigators and staff at HPDP work with communities to conduct research, provide training and translate research findings into policy and practice. Research areas include nutrition and physical activity, cardiovascular health, diabetes, obesity, healthy food access, cancer prevention and control, children's health, rural health, and health equity. HPDP is part of a network of 20 CDC Prevention Research Centers across the United States.
Position Summary
This position is a 100% remote work arrangement, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

This is a part-time temporary SHRA Research Assistant position (10 hours per week). The Research Assistant position will work with the Community Health and Wellness Resource Team, mainly on the HomeGrown project (National Institutes of Health R61 study). This project will evaluate the feasibility of a web-based behavior change platform looking to improve nutrition and physical activity practices of caregivers of young children (2-6 years old) with Down syndrome. The Research Assistant will work on measurement development and literature reviews around measures that will be used for the project. Additionally, this individual will assist with creating recruitment and data collection materials and protocols. Finally, the Research Assistant will help connect with community partners, including helping with presentations and resources to present the project to community partners. This position may be remote only.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Experience in public health, health behavior, exercise science, nutrition, psychology, social work, or related field.
- Working experience with using research protocols to recruit and collect data on participants.
- Experience with measurement development
- Experience with Canva
