Strategic Communications and Marketing at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing for the WVU College of Law.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Executive Director of Strategic Priorities within Strategic Communications and Marketing, the Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing for the WVU College of Law will lead all strategic marketing, branding, and storytelling efforts. This role will re-envision how the College engages current and prospective students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and West Virginia State Bar members. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of our College-highlighting success stories, areas of excellence, and key programs that differentiate WVU Law while driving pride and enrollment. As a visible leader and strategic partner to the dean, administration, and statewide stakeholders, this position helps strengthen relationships within the internal and external communities and highlights the College of Law as a source of innovation, excellence, and influence across the region and beyond.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and communications strategies for the WVU College of Law.
  • Collaborate with the dean, administration, faculty, staff, and campus partners to advance the College's brand and reputation.
  • Lead storytelling and content creation across digital, print, web, and social media platforms.
  • Oversee the overhaul and maintenance of law.wvu.edu to ensure a modern and audience-focused site.
  • Lead the content strategy and writing for newsletters, speeches, event promotions, integrated campaigns, and other communications that engage alumni, donors, and the legal community.
  • Develop streamlined processes to engage WVU College of Law faculty and staff.
  • Develop strong partnerships with communicators and marketers across campus.
  • Supervise staff and student workers as necessary; manage projects from concept to completion.
  • Ensure brand consistency, compelling messaging, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Conduct market research, analyze results, and stay up to date on industry trends to guide strategy.
  • Represent the College at events and support other Strategic Priorities initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or related field required
  • A minimum of five (5) years of related experience required
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated expertise in marketing strategy, concepts, and consumer behavior, especially with university audiences.
  • Proven experience managing creative teams and cross-platform projects across advertising, social media, merchandising, and brand management.
  • Skilled in recruitment marketing, audience segmentation, and integrating diverse media into cohesive institutional strategies.
  • Proficient with marketing channels including direct mail, signage, sponsorships, promotional products, design, and digital or print collateral.
  • Strong leadership in campaign development, creative direction, and project execution.
  • Exceptional written, visual, and verbal communication with outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Deep understanding of higher education missions and objectives, particularly the WVU College of Law.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field
