JOB ANNOUNCEMENT PROJECT MANAGER DEPARTMENT OF WATER MANAGEMENT Bureau of Operations and Distribution Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $89,112.00/year Applications for this position will be accepted from 10/24/25, until 11:59pm CDT on 11/7/25 The Chicago Department of Water Management is seeking a Project Manager to lead, oversee, and ensure the successful delivery and management of municipal projects that are part of a coordinated program to enhance City infrastructure, services, and programs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Manages specialized project(s) of significant size and scope that support the Bureau of Operations and Distribution for the Chicago Department of Water Management * Prepares long-range project plans in coordination with stakeholders including the establishment of work plans and staffing for each phase of project(s) * Consults with staff and consultants to determine the scope of services, budgets and specifications of projects * Manages project(s) from inception to end * Analyzes project proposals to determine the time frame, funding limitations and appropriate process for accomplishing project objectives and goals * Manages staff, including but not limited to assigning and reviewing work, approving time off requests, and preparing performance evaluations * Establishes timelines and implements processes to track and monitor progress, target, key objectives and milestones, and budgets for established projects * Ensures that project goals and objectives of projects are accomplished within allocated time frame and funding parameters * Plans, directs and controls the execution of all technical, fiscal and administrative functions of assigned project(s) * Monitors services provided by contractors ensuring contract provisions meet program specifications * Monitors project activities and resources to mitigate risks and maintain quality assurance processes * Leads cross-functional teams to improve business strategies and performance with stakeholders * Develops and contributions to process improvement (e.g., SOPs) Additional duties may be required for this position Some specific job responsibilities include: * Handling all the Bureau of Operations and Distribution's discipline matters * Oversees all transfer requests for union employees within the Bureau * Manages the department's involvement with the weekly Operation Clean and Green events * Manages the department's involvement with the Mayor's Take Back the Block events * Oversees the Bureau's acting up process ensuring all CBA procedures are followed * Responsible for monthly reporting to Personnel * Assists with the development of the Bureau's standard operation procedures * Develops the Bureau's COOP (Continuity of Operation Plans) in coordination with OEMC and other departments Additional duties may be required for this position Location: Varies Days: Varies Hours: Varies THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM CAREER SERVICE Qualifications
* Nine (9) years of work experience in project management or program coordination, OR * Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree PLUS seven (7) years of project management or program coordination work experience, OR * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's PLUS five (5) years of project management or program coordination work experience, OR * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree or higher PLUS four (4) years of project management or program coordination work experience SELECTION REQUIREMENTS For Information on our employees benefits please visit our benefits website at: For Information on our salary and title structure visit our classifications website at: APPLICATION EVALUATION: Initial evaluation will be based on information provided on the application and the documents submitted.
