The Position

Genentech's Hillsboro Technical Operations (HTO), located in Hillsboro Oregon, is Drug Product manufacturing (Component Prep & Compounding, Liquid/Lyophilized Filling, Automated/Manual Inspection, Packaging/Finished Products and Distribution). This location is currently experiencing a period of growth, with a variety of opportunities to support optimization of our existing processes, as well as the delivery of new capabilities and technologies. You will be a member of the Frontline Automation Engineering Team which plays a key role in the support of our site's make, assess, and release process. The individual selected into this role will provide frontline support and work collaboratively with maintenance, engineering, utilities, reliability teams, and end users to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment and processes. Additionally, you will work on project teams to deliver new capabilities and improve existing processes.

The selected candidate will demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset and possess strong hands-on troubleshooting skills within a GMP environment. This role's normal schedule includes working one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) to support manufacturing operations. Additional responsibilities of the role include:

  • You will work in lock step with other support organizations, vendors, and end users to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues on the shop floor.

  • You will develop, deploy and test automation solutions in support of Drug Product (DP) operations to reduce equipment downtime, improve compliance, and enhance reliability.

  • You will actively participate in the daily process team huddles.

  • You will provide automation upskilling and knowledge transfer to other support organizations and end users.

  • You will lead deviation investigations related to Process Automation.

  • You will own and manage changes following the site GMP change control process.

  • You will ensure systems maintain their validated states.

  • You will maintain system lifecycle documentation.

  • You will participate in self-development opportunities.

Who you are:

  • You have a BS degree in Engineering with 0-2 (for Automation Engineer level) or 3-7 (For Senior Automation Engineer level) years of relevant experience

  • You have a strong foundation in programming.

  • You have a basic understanding of P&ID and electrical drawings and you can leverage these skills during equipment troubleshooting situations.

  • You can participate as a member of the 24/7 Automation On Call Rotation.

  • You have a desire to continuously improve yourself.

  • You are able to troubleshoot issues on the manufacturing shop floor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • You have an Electrical Engineering degree

  • You have a strong initiative and integrity as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • You have a proven ability to apply automation solutions and troubleshooting to solve complex problems on highly automated equipment.

  • You have experience in regulated industries such as Pharmaceutical, Medical Device or Food and Beverage.

  • You have familiarity with Rockwell and/or Siemens PLC's & HMI's, Emerson DeltaV & S88 Batch Processing, with robotics and autonomous mobile robots, or with vision inspection systems.

  • You have an ability to work collaboratively within cross functional team environments.

  • You have an experience with integrated motion systems.

  • You are familiar with AI and Machine Learning Skills.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Hillsboro, OR is $80,500 - $149,500. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, level, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
