This is a full-time, overtime eligible position on the Tacoma campus of The Evergreen State College. This position is exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules.
Position Purpose
This position reports to the Assistant Director for Evergreen Tacoma and plays a key role in recruiting and admitting a diverse and talented student body to The Evergreen State College Tacoma Campus. This position implements college admissions operations and recruitment strategies, supports students with FAFSA/ WAFSA, DCYF, and other financial aid procedures, utilizes the college's Admissions CRM system, and collaborates with campus stakeholders to support student success and retention efforts.
Nature and Scope
This position involves high interpersonal interaction with prospective and current students, faculty, staff, and administration of the college, community representatives, and other higher education personnel. The work is done both virtually and at various locations around the state of Washington, as well as on-site. In addition to one-on-one conversations with individuals, advising is conducted in small and large group settings. This is a dynamic position integral to shaping the future of the campus community.
Essential Functions

  • Implement recruitment strategies to attract prospective students from diverse backgrounds and geographic regions.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective students, families, high schools, and community organizations regarding Evergreen Tacoma admissions-related inquiries.
  • Provide information about the college, including, but is not limited to, academic advising, financial aid, scholarships, and student life to prospective students in the office and in the field via written correspondence, in person, email, or by telephone.
  • Use college recruitment and admissions customer relationship management and data management systems for communications, tracking, and appointment and event management with prospective students.
  • Coordinate recruitment events, campus tours, and outreach activities to engage prospective students and families.
  • Lead and train Student Ambassadors at recruitment events.
  • In coordination with Evergreen Enrollment Services, develop and maintain relationships with high schools, community colleges, and other educational partners to facilitate recruitment pipelines and articulation agreements.
  • Represent the institution at college fairs, conferences, and other recruitment events to promote Evergreen Tacoma and its programs.
  • Provide guidance and support to prospective students throughout the admissions process, including advising on application requirements, financial aid, and enrollment procedures.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications team to develop promotional materials and campaigns to enhance recruitment efforts.
  • Serve as a liaison between Evergreen Tacoma and the Admissions Office.
  • Collect and analyze data on admissions trends, applicant demographics, and enrollment projections to inform strategic planning.
  • Support new student orientations in collaboration with other Tacoma staff and faculty.
  • Provide information to inquirers by phone, email, and in person; greet visitors and answer questions at open houses and special events.
  • Manage orders and supplies for recruitment, including brochures and equipment for events.
  • Working with the Administrative Assistant to the Dean, coordinate efforts and assist in the design of recruitment publications and improvements on the Tacoma Program website.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to provide admissions information to diverse groups of prospective students and collaborate with local high schools and colleges to promote Evergreen State College Tacoma.
  • Ability to organize, oversee, and participate in recruitment fairs and events.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with audience with diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract new students and meet enrollment goals.
  • Knowledge of student financial aid programs and policies.
  • Skill in leveraging customer relationship management and data management systems for data collection and analysis, communication, and planning.
  • Commitment to admissions best practices, consistent with state and federal civil rights laws, to increase access and enrollments for populations that traditionally participate at lower rates in higher education.
  • Skill in leading student ambassadors, including assigning, instructing, and checking the work of others.
  • for communicating in dual language and culturally responsive advising, academic and career advancement, and providing referral services for students with personal and crisis counseling needs.
  • Willingness to advance understanding of student-centered higher education retention and intervention services and strategies.

  • Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule that includes nights and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years of experience in admissions or related student affairs role, preferably within a culturally responsive environment and higher education setting.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree in organizational management, social sciences, or education.
  • Experience as an admissions or recruitment specialist.
  • One year of experience working in a dual language and English as a second language environment.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three days of beginning work.
  • This position is part of a bargaining unit and covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Prior to an official offer of employment, a Declaration Regarding Sexual Misconduct form must be submitted to the college per RCW 28B.112.080. The college will contact current and past employers to verify this information. Applicants who provide inaccurate information in their declaration will be disqualified and, if the inaccuracies are discovered after the applicant has been hired, it shall be grounds for termination.
  • Must be able to travel and work evening and weekend hours.
  • Must be able to move materials, such as catalogues, brochures, and display equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
